Help! 2005 Mazda6i Transmission problem between first and second; shift shock

Can you help me? My brand new 05 Mazda6i (2.4L) transmission was great when I just bought it but after only a month I noticed that more often than not it doesn't shift smoothly between 1st and 2nd. Some online research has led me to believe it's quite common for a rough shift until the transmission fluid reaches an ideal temperature but this problem persistents no matter how long i've been driving.

Research has led me to believe the thud I hear between those gears is known as "shift shock" and has plauged older Models for some time and supposedly was fixed for the 2005 model. Unfortunately, it doesn't do this all the time especially when I've taken it to the dealer and test driven the car with them.

I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting problems online and the two times I've taken it to the dealer they tell me they can't recreate the problem so there's nothing to fix. I'd like to think the thud i hear is all in my head but passengers have also noticed the thud and brought it to my attention.

Isn't there anyone else out there with this problem? It's not severe but it bugs me that my brand new car is flawed. Maybe the dealer does know what the problem is but since it's not severe they don't want to open a can or worms by admitting to a defect. I'm sure this transmission is in many mazda vehicles including the Mazda3. If you know something or have or have not noticed a problem please help by posting a reply.

I'm honestly thinking about taking the car to a outside transmission specialist for an independent opinion but that's going to cost me more time and money.

Much appreciated. -D

how many miles do you have on it? I know my friends changed the transmission fluid after 1,500 miles.

An updated flash for the TCM was JUST released.

Call your dealers and ask what their WDS version is. If the tech department doesn't know, ask them to ask their service manager.

37.4 is the latest, 37.3 has the 6i ATX update.

If they say somethig to the effects of..."thats normal" or "don't think thats a warenty item" then search for a new dealer cause most likely they didn't take the hours it took to upload each version and it may take them almost a day to cetch up just to help you.

*Edit* 2.4L?

Update: Help!

A great big thanks to all those who posted! I called the dealer who wasn't familiar with the 37.4 or 37.3 syntax but did give me an update number which I sadly failed to write down. I'm taking the car back tomorrow morning for a reload of what I think is 37.4. Maybe while I'm there I can convince them to change the transmission fluid now that my car has 4k miles on it. I will keep you all posted. Please continue posting!!

The dealer said 37.6 had actually been loaded. I have noticed some improvement but not much. The dealer thinks the transmission is totally normal although I've never noticed another car shift like this before. I couldn't convince him to chance the transmission fluid or further diagnose. Maybe it is normal. I hope if anyone else encounters the same problem they will post a reply to this message.

Thanks.

V6 altima tranny shifts just like it ;) If that makes you feel any better. As for fluid levels hope the dealer checked that stuff when you went in for tranny issues. I have the issues but not as noticable as before the tranny cooler. The trannys arent the greatest but a trany cooler can help you out alot.

I would also consider going out and getting some Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid. I am sure it will help general operation anyway.

Things could be worse..Monday I will be taking my Acura CL type S in for its THIRD tranny. I am gratefull that Acura gave a 100k warranty on the trans though.

here is a pic of the beast.

May want to verify that won't void the trans Warranty.

If it has all the codes of approved fluid per the manual, which my amsoil gear oil did, they cannot void it. Plus, if you don't tell them, they are probably not going to know.

I am going to be putting synthetic in my wifes 02 B3000 in a couple thousand miles. Going with Mobil 1 in the engine, Amsoil ATF for the tranny, and Amsoil gear oil for the rear end ( I will verify it takes that type of fluid prior to install).
