hi all

my a/c compressor broke down y'day and the mazda part is really expensive. so i was wondering if a ford replacement part exists and if it would be cheaper. Its a '96 protege 4 dr

If they did, I seriously doubt it'd be any less expensive. Most dealer sourced replacement parts are quite expensive.

Going out on a limb, if your car has a DOHC 1.8L engine, you might be able to source one from a 91-96 Escort GT.

Check out your local junk yard or www.mazdarecycling.com, www.mazmart.com, or www.car-part.com. I'm sure either will be a better, used, alternative in the end.

sadly the mazda dealer parts are usually cheaper than the ford dealer parts.

Hit up places like kcbhiw said, or you might try looking in your yellow pages for someone who has remanufactuered ones.... they are cheaper, and usually last almost as long as new parts.
