replaced the brake booster myself...OMG, SIX HOURS!

we were getting the typical spongy brake and hissing noise issues, I diagnosed it as a faulty booster. I didn't think to take it to the dealer, as I thought I had read that the warranty extension only went up to 2011... anyway, it's a big job. the wipers have to come off, then the cowl panel...

fixed driver's power window for $6.70!

since I also own a BMW, it amazes me how I really don't experience many issues with my CX-9. the BMW is a high maintenance drama queen, whereas my Mazda is the always reliable, easily overlooked wallflower. anyway... my power window developed a 'grinding' sound and wouldn't go up all the way...

adventures in getting a new key fob (stupid dealers)

have you ever tried to get a new key at the dealer? we recently bought a used '12 CX-9, of course only came with one key, but we wanted the 2nd one. dealer wanted $350! and they act as if they don't even want to be bothered doing it. good, I'm not giving them any money. found a place online...

world's easiest cabin air filter change

after hearing horror stories of changing the cabin filter in a Mazda5, I was dreading it in the CX-9. we just bought it used and the A/C really smelled bad. all you have to do is pull down a panel at the back of the glove compartment, and the filter is behind a white plastic cover. I was done...

    no more M5, hello CX-9!

basically we outgrew it :) bought our 2009 Mazda5 Sport manual at the end of '09, last manual available within a reasonable distance. kids were 9, 7 and 1. well, now they are 13, 11 and 5 obviously, and we just don't have the room to even do grocery shopping together, much less a day trip. we...

picked up a POS '93 Camry, I hate it already...

I'll make this short: friend of mine had this hand me down camry w/ 283K miles that she was tired of putting money into. when the brakes needed work and she got a quote of $800! she decided to get a new car. they were going to junk it, but I'm thinking, it has a lot of new parts, it runs, why...

don't know if I'm smart or an idiot, but I fixed my brake noise.

I replaced the pads and rotors on all 4 wheels a few months ago, and all seemed well. but soon after, a 'clunk' made itself apparent whenever I applied the brakes in low speed, local driving situations. it was driving me crazy. I thought about the whole job, checked caliper bolts, etc. I...

boxes, roof mount and hitch mount, trailers, discussion

I know I've come across pictures on here of some members who use hitch mounted boxes and am looking to have a discussion. from what I've researched, the only hitch receiver available for the 5 is a class I; hitch mounted boxes require a class II or III. a class II will physically fit but the pin...

Road Trip! NOT taking the Mazda5...

heading out for a 1300mi road trip, was getting the 5 all ready, when plans changed; my Dad is coming with us, and he drives a Toyota Highlander HYBRID... much more room inside, and hopefully better mpgs. the 5 will be staying in a friends garage next to a '10 Mazda3. will check in when I get...

    new brakes on order

just thought I'd post this before I actually started. 5 has 32K miles. when having a tire repaired the tech commented the rear brakes were low; sure enough, they are. that was a surprise because I've never worn out rears before the fronts. the fronts are down pretty far too, but still have some...

Conti ExtremeContact DWS tires really BITE!

bite in a good way! here in PA, as much of the rest of the country is also, we had some good snow/sleet this morning. the DWS's really eat up the stuff! I stalled once because I didn't give it enough gas (as I thought I would slip) so I had to get used to NOT slipping, (lol). just gave it more...

dropping by, need some CX-7 info

just coming over from the Mazda5 section, I have some questions in behalf of my parents. they have a CX-9, decided it's too big, and want a CX-7 AWD. 1. do all years of the 2.3 turbo engine require high octane fuel? 2. any model years to avoid? thanks people!

got a flat the other day, see my funny spare

I'm thinking it's yellow to remind you, 'hey, it's temporary!'. I was glad to see the tools and jack were easily accessible, had it changed out in a few minutes. getting some new tires today, continentals, forget which model.

this is odd, maybe everyone knows already

went w/ a friend on saturday to look at a new Mazda3 or 6. she wanted a manual one; I fugured she should look at a 6 isport over a 3 s touring, since they are so close in price. we were REAL close to getting a nice black on black one they had in stock, BUT...she wanted a sunroof. well, it looks...

might be getting an '00 ES 5 spd

a good friend of mine is ready to trade up to a new Mazda3. I went w/ her to the dealer when she bought her '00 ES new in 2000. 5 speed, moonroof, cloth interior. she never had a lick of trouble w/ it, one owner obviously. mileage is about 160K, all hwy basically. best part, she might let me...

how come they don't make a rear air deflector?

I mean air deflector, not a spoiler. an air deflector on station wagons and vans directs air down over the rear window to cut down on dirt. I had one on my VUE and it worked great. my 5 has a filthy hatch and rear window right now.

    1st time in snow/slush w/ my M5

and it handled way better than I expected. stock toyos, no traction control. we had about 3" of the white stuff last night, followed w/ lots of rain just in time for the morning commute. no slippage, no funny stuff (I drive conservatively in the snow anyway). I think I'll get through the winter...
