How long will you keep your 2012 CX-9 GT FWD

nothing like reading the forums to sour you on your car, lol... we've had our '12 FWD Touring since 2013, former rental. I intentionally sought out a FWD instead of a AWD to avoid the transfer case issue, and to get the better MPGs. only issue we've had was the power brake booster failing; I...

    Gas mileage, how to improve?

don't depend on the readout; I find it doesn't refresh often enough. do the math yourself. fill up tank (regular 87 octane is fine, no benefit to higher octane in these cars), set odometer to zero. drive to almost empty, fill up again and see how many gallons it takes. divide mileage by...

So frustrated by our unreliable mazda5

wait, let me get this straight; the door lock doesn't work, and the liftgate wont lift remotely? and for THAT the car is a POS? for THAT you're going to write off the whole company??? wow. I guess we live in different worlds.

2010 cx-9 heat shield falling off

its ridiculously easy to do this yourself; I can slide under the car without jacking it up, and it will be obvious what is wrong. very easy fix.

2010 cx-9 heat shield falling off

just yesterday I had another of the rivets fail, the 2nd one. the first time I used a zip tie to secure it. that one is fine still. for this one, I used a little screw and nut. I expect the remaining rivets will also fail in due time. since the shield is not failing, just the rivets holding it...

New Member here: I just test drove a cx 9 signature - "dreadful A/C" is correct

EVERY Mazda I've owned has has had a weak A/C. the 2000 MPV was probably the worst. my current '12 CX-9 is barely adequate. I just think Mazda engineers spec undersized equipment and it's not a priority for them.

Why Can't the CX-9 V6 Use Synthetic Oil?

3K changes are outdated. manual calls for 5K/7.5K depending on driving habits.

replaced the brake booster myself...OMG, SIX HOURS!

thanks for your insight, but I've been working on cars myself for 30 years, it's not my first rodeo.

    '14 CX9 performance brakes compatibility?

rotors don't warp. this is a myth. what you're feeling is uneven pad deposits on the rotor.

replaced the brake booster myself...OMG, SIX HOURS!

we were getting the typical spongy brake and hissing noise issues, I diagnosed it as a faulty booster. I didn't think to take it to the dealer, as I thought I had read that the warranty extension only went up to 2011... anyway, it's a big job. the wipers have to come off, then the cowl panel...

no more standing in rain while filling up :)

I can't remember when was the last time I had to fill up at a station without a canopy... but I live in PA, on the NJ border, we all get gas in NJ. not only are the gas taxes like 25 cents lower per gal than PA, it's also the LAW that you're not allowed to pump your own gas! so it's a win-win.

CX-9 Is It Good? How do you like it?

when my '12 is worn out, the new CX-9's will have been out for a while, and that would be my next car. no rush, I'd like to see how the new turbo 4 does in the real world.

Adding a drain plug to your transfer case PTU

NPT stands for National Pipe Thread, it's the standard plumbing pipe fitting thread. plugs are in fact tapered and don't require any sealant. this is a very sound mod; transmissions and axles used to always have a drain like this, its isn't a problem.

Threaded holes on the front of Cx-9

they just leave them in because they get towed so often, lol. BMW's usually are missing the cover, because they get removed so often when they get towed.

The quietest and most comfortable tire ?

I think this is a subjective thing, like the best sounding speakers. most tires when new will be pretty quiet, and get noisier as they wear, but we are used to it by that point. anyway, I'v running Mastercrafts on my 9, and they are great. I KNOW they are great because my wife isn't...

fixed driver's power window for $6.70!

that's always the hard choice in replacement parts; unfortunately, China has the ability to make some of the greatest and worst products on the planet, so it's hard to judge quality based on country of origin. and, many OEM parts come from China (not a lot of stuff manufactured in Japan...

fixed driver's power window for $6.70!

yes, thanks. I usually go to rock auto, but $6.70 is still a lot cheaper than $40 :) the drivers window always sounded weird since we got it (it was a former rental) but so far the pass side works well. and compared to my BMW that is known for consuming window tracks, this is pretty good.

fixed driver's power window for $6.70!

since I also own a BMW, it amazes me how I really don't experience many issues with my CX-9. the BMW is a high maintenance drama queen, whereas my Mazda is the always reliable, easily overlooked wallflower. anyway... my power window developed a 'grinding' sound and wouldn't go up all the way...

    2008 GT Brake Rotors

we have a lot in common, I've driven mostly stick and that does affect habits. I've found that the hill decent programming in the CX-9 is excellent, IF you know how to use it. I was coming down a long long hill a few years ago, behind a honda Pilot. it was a good few miles; he rode his brakes...

    2008 GT Brake Rotors

THIS. peoples driving habits are the #1 cause of difficulties and complaints. same when people complain about poor mpg's, they refuse to accept that they are the problem. much easier to blame the car. too many people treat the gas and brake as an on/off switch, with not enough coasting. I...
