Safety Tips when working with Fiberglass and Resin

FYI....if you decide to use a half face mask, there's no guarantee that it will protect you, unless you have the mask fit tested first. I worked with fiberglass for years (repairing cooling towers) and I'm all too familiar with the dangers of working with it.

    Need help with oilpan/mbsp

I just checked a Mazda parts website, and YES...there IS a gasket for the 1.8. I would highly suggest using the gasket to make sure that the end seals are sealed up tight. Better safe than sorry. You don't want to use RTV around the whole pan, put it back together...just to find a leak and do it...

    Need help with oilpan/mbsp

Call the dealer. I called a few autoshops for a gasket on mine, and they told me the same thing...that there wasn't a gasket. But the dealer sells the gasket, and I believe it's a dealer only item.

    Need help with oilpan/mbsp

Also...make sure that you take your time and get ALL of the old gasket material off the oilpan, MBSP, and the engine block. If you leave ANY gasket material on the mating surfaces, you will get a leak. And also make sure that you do not scratch or gouge any of the mating surfaces. Good...

    Need help with oilpan/mbsp

I have a 2000 also, but mine is a 1.6l....so I'm not sure how different your oil pan is. When I did an oilpan job on my car, I had to buy gaskets from the dealer. There were 2 gaskets in the package, one for the front seal, and one for the rear seal. Along the length of the oilpan, I had to...

    Bouncing idle after stop

I had some weird idling problems also. But after reading MANY threads about how the MAF sensor is bad in the 2000 1.6l, I changed the sensor and the problem went away. So I would suggest either changing the MAF, or checking the Air intake ducting for any cracks. Best of luck.

    Overdrive and Cruise Control issues...

Let me also say, that since I got back from California (2 weeks ago) I haven't had any problems. The car runs great and it shifts smooth. I'll try flushing the transmission fluid and see if that makes any difference.

I don't think I like your answer. LOL. Just kidding. Thank you for the info.

    Overdrive and Cruise Control issues...

My car is a 2000 Protege 1.6l Automatic with about 135k miles on it. I drove from Phoenix to Disneyland last weekend and noticed an issue with my cruise control after a couple hours of driving. I had the cruise control set to about 80mph, and noticed that while my car was going uphill, or if I...

2000 Protege Engine Vibration at Idle

It sounds like it could be the motor mounts/tranny mounts. I have a 2000 Protege also, and just had to change out all 4 of my mounts as well. The rear mount is a PAIN IN THE @SS....so good luck with it. If you have about 3 feet of extensions, you can get to it from the top of the car.

2000 Protege 1.6l, Auto, motor mount

Two of my mounts were REALLY bad, and crumbled as soon as I got them out of the car. The other two were cracked really bad. It was definitely time to change them. Hopefully they'll last for a while.

2000 Protege 1.6l, Auto, motor mount

SUCCESS!!! The motor mounts are all done, and the rattling has ceased!! THANK GOD! :) We got it all done in a few hours, but that rear one really was a pain.... The dealer service guys were telling me how I needed to lower the subframe and do all these other things to get to the rear mount...

    Car won't start...help?

I agree with Bgibb and Concept. It sounds like the alternator pulley froze, and the smoke is coming from the belt. Get the alternator tested and replaced. If you need to replace the belt, make sure you get the belt from a Mazda dealer. Any time I've tried changing my belt with an Autozone or...

    a/c squeeling

I agree with boostdprotegelx. You can get a belt for a non-AC Protege. Me, I live in Phoenix and NEED my AC.

2000 Protege 1.6l, Auto, motor mount

No air tools here....just gonna be ready to get a few knuckle busters, and scream MANY profanities. I'm hoping to get this done on Saturday. Wish me luck...

2000 Protege 1.6l, Auto, motor mount

Thanks. I bought the new mounts, but I was told the same thing about the rear mount....that it's a real pain in the @$$. I was told that I need to remove the rack and pinion from the sub-frame and lower the sub-frame to get to it. Did you have the same issue? Sounds like an awful lot of work...

2000 Protege 1.6l, Auto, motor mount

Whenever my car is stopped (and in DRIVE) it makes a really bad "rattling" noise, but it stops once I start moving, or if I put the car in neutral. I'm assuming that I have a bad motor mount. Is it best to replace all of the mounts, or can I get by, by just changing out the broken one? Has...

Front seal on 2000 Protege 1.6l

Yeah, the $725 included the head gasket and valve cover gasket. Car runs better than it ever has. I'm defintiely a happy Mazda owner right now. :)

Front seal on 2000 Protege 1.6l

Thanks Poindexter!!! My problem did turn out to be the front seal/crankshaft seal. My cam seals were also leaking. I took the car to the Mazda dealer and they changed out the crank seals, cam seals, water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt cover, head gasket, valve cover...

    Minor oil leak 2000 1.6?

My problem did turn out to be the front seal/crankshaft seal. My cam seals were also leaking. I took the car to the Mazda dealer and they changed out the crank seals, cam seals, water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt cover, head gasket, valve cover gasket, new belts, and a...
