You should never use a "filter wrench". An oil filter does not need to be that tight. You should tighten it until it starts to resist, then tighten about 1/8th turn after that. Not 1/4 turn, 1/8th turn. You should never tighten it enough where you need a tool other than your bare hand to get it off.
