I just finished changing the spark plugs on my 2002 Protege LX 2.0. It has 66,000km and this is the first time the plugs have been changed. I've attached a photo of one of the plugs (they all are similar). Does this look like normal wear??? It's got a dark, dry, sooty black layer around it...

I just bought an 02 Protege LX with 66K on it and am wondering if the brakes need doing now/soon... I've always been under the impression that brakes will begin to squeal when they need doing. Is this always the case or should I pull the wheels off to have a look? I'd rather not pull off...
