P0421: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Hi Davmac and others, No, I'm not currently due for an emissions test until later in the year, but when I take the car to the dealer they are sure to note the issue. The code came up a bit after trying to spray clean the carbon downstream through the system with CRC EFI cleaner (not the right...

P0421: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Upon further reflection, could this also be related to a carbon build-up issue? I bought the car used and it showed carbon in the exhaust tips. I thought "what's up with that?" I think this problem surfaced shortly after I tried spray cleaning carbon through the system (unaware of an issue...

P0421: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Do I assume correctly that you put the G2P in the fuel? Thanks

P0421: Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P0421 diagnostic help please: On my 2014 CX5 2.5 at 91,000 miles, I've also been getting P0421 consistently (I have a little gauge that monitors). No other codes come up to help diagnose the issue. It shows the code as pending on each drive and as a CEL. I started by changing new factory...

    Spark Plug Removal

Best source for highest quality spark plugs What's your best source for spark plugs? My best information is that OEM Mazda PE5S 18110 is the highest quality spark plug. They are expensive, though. Have you seen the price difference if you shop online? Some are very similar or just a few...

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

What is/are your sources for ATF type FZ Has your local Mazda dealer been a positive experience for you? How much is FZ at your dealer? Or have you found another source? I bought my CX-5 recently, which has close to 80,000 miles, and to me the transmission fluid's pretty dirty looking...

Reading Transmission Fluid Temp from OBD Connector

Thanks ColtX-5. Good to know. I like how thin the Scangauge is. I'm comparing it to the http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/ultragauge_wired.htm the MX version that reads and displays from manufacturer codes. I like the display, the amount of information displayed, and the alarms you can set.

Anyone found an OBD2 phone app that will read transmission fluid temp?

ELM327, Forscan, or UltraGauge MX This is a great alternative for me, and now has me considering the option of using a phone more seriously because it has I have relevant information about the dependability of everyday use. I am still considering a dedicated hardwired device. Somebody...

Reading Transmission Fluid Temp from OBD Connector

UltraGauge MX Someone might have shown me this, or I forgot where I found the link, but this has a hardwired, small display with what seems to be a large, clear readout (but wish there were options for analog). It appears much clearer and more modern looking than ScanGauge II. And from their...

Anyone found an OBD2 phone app that will read transmission fluid temp?

I thought about this, and looked at some of the dongles that broadcast the OBDII data either Bluetooth or Wifi. In each case, there were reasons to doubt the reliability of these systems, that they lose connectivity or burn out quickly. Which systems do drivers use that have proven reliable...

Anyone found an OBD2 phone app that will read transmission fluid temp?

This is useful information. I know adding an ATF cooler has been discussed in length on another thread. I am also a big fan of ATF coolers, having installed them on my other cars including my Lexus RX300, famous for it's weak "lifetime" transmission, meaning the life of the warranty. I'm...

Anyone found an OBD2 phone app that will read transmission fluid temp?

AT Temp from OBDII to display on a gauge Have you found a good way to display transmission temperature (separate or in addition to engine coolant sensor)? I read on this thread how many drivers display on their phone or a diagnostic tool. I'm looking to display so I can read it real time...

Reading Transmission Fluid Temp from OBD Connector

These look slick. I guess I would need a pod in which to install it. They don't come cheap though, to read ATF temp. Thanks!

Reading Transmission Fluid Temp from OBD Connector

Have you found a good way to display transmission temperature (separate or in addition to engine coolant sensor)? I have a 2014 CX-5 AWD 2.5 GT. I saw the small, what appeared hard-to-read Scan Gauge II that others have reported being able to read transmission and engine coolant temps. I'm...

    Gear shift light

Gear selector light replacement Thanks, your posts with images are really helpful. And yes we do know to those who noted you can confirm selection on the left side of the dash. The post really is about the procedure to replace the indicator light at the shifter, or so I thought. The shifter...

Rear sway bar options for 1st generation CX-5

Best Anti-Sway Options From what I read on this forum thread for a normal street, road, and canyon driving car that's going to get tons of miles, it makes sense to simply upgrade the sway bars, starting first with the rear. This car is never going to the track, but it's going on lots of road...

Transmission Cooler - Anyone installed one?

Auxiliary Transmission Cooler for CX-5 The original question is still a legitimate one for those of us who would like to keep our CX5 a long time and over a long haul, who may live in areas with very hot weather, and do occasionally tow something within limits, too. Changing the fluid is...
