    No fire under the hood

Finally had the motor swapped out. New motor has 104k, so the timing belt/pump kit was installed. New radiator added. Took a 600 mile trip to break it in! Headaches? Well the first yard couldn't find the motor they stated they had. Second yard want $2k for a 100K+, third yard had the 104k at...

    No fire under the hood

Well, the story continues. Timing is fine (bang) With that, called the gent that recently bought my Jeep. He owns a auto repair shop. Told him everything I know and done so far. His first words were, check the anti-freeze. Yep, empty.. He figures the motor overheated, either warped the head...

    No fire under the hood

The belt / tension seem fine. Won't be able to tear into the motor until next week. Medical procedure on Thursday and then it's a working weekend. Agreed, look at the current timing before deciding what the next step will be.

Visual inspection of the lifters have the appearance that they are all in sync with their perspective cam lobes. All most ready to just buy one of the used motors off eBay that are imported from Japan.

    No fire under the hood

Going to check value clearance tonight. Hoping that the values are not stuck. Thinking this way since there is no noise/bangs/etc when turning the motor over. Will do the TDC test also.. And agree with your last statement, it started before with this setup, should start now. Put the charger...

    No fire under the hood

I've only owned the P5 for less than a couple of months now. Not really enough time to get used to the oddities it may have. When I took the starter down to have it tested, one tech that wasn't even involved with the testing came over and stated how slow it is. Left the charger on a couple of...

    No fire under the hood

Since my neighbor's son was around, had him think over the issues with the car. His first comment was on how slow the starter was turning over. His thought was to check cyl compression. Went and rented the tool. Numbers certainly don't look good. #1 and #4 had around 25lbs while the other two...

    No fire under the hood

Do agree that changing out the belt will occur, either way. But my thoughts would be even if it's off by just a few degrees, wouldn't the motor even try to fire, backfire at least?

    No fire under the hood

Going to throw a twist into this. For some reason, I was under the impression that the I / E needed to be on top, not side by side. Well, crap, they do line up. So my question would be where does the belt normally throw itself off time? At the crank? If so, it's still possible to be off time...

Took the cover off, with the eyes of a friend, the cam marks never lined up.... Belt has good pressure on it. Guess it's time to replace the belt and tensioner.

    No fire under the hood

Read that in past threads. Did a quick inspect of the tube when working the starter. Didn't see any cracks. Currently looking over the fun I'll have to look at the t-belt. Thinking it may be the t-belt also. 230K, doubt it's been changed in the past.

Just thinking, if the CKP is bad, why would the plugs fire? Just trying to eliminate any possibilities..

    No fire under the hood

Yea, I know the list.. Have the service manual on pdf. I did read past threads on possible issues related to this. Didn't see anything quite with the issue currently having. The batt was removed for some time, hours, while working on removing/testing the starter. I'll keep digging..

    No fire under the hood

Hello all, hoping someone might be able to assist on this issue I seem to have. I've owned the P5 less than 2 months. 2002 P5, auto, 230K. Motor died while driving to work early this week. It does turn over, however slowly, but motor will not fire up. Not even a backfire. Starter was taken out...
