Automatic wipers - yea or nay

I have to imagine I'm making things up in my head. I googled it and sensors are typically sending infrared light at a 45 degree angle through the window and then measuring how much light is returned. It would make more sense for each sensitivity setting to have a dedicated percentage of light...

Automatic wipers - yea or nay

I had the same feature on my 2008 X3 and love it. I was looking at a 4 Runner as a replacement before I really looked at the CX-5 and it really bummed me out that it didn't have it. Didn't even know the CX-5 had it until I went to turn on the wipers for the first time and was super happy to find...

    CX-5 back seat legroom

Ah yes, good point. I have an almost 6 year old as well, so that's why the carseat has to go behind at least one of us. Something to think about if you plan on another bundle of joy in the future. Congratulations, by the way!

    CX-5 back seat legroom

My first question would be how are they measuring legroom? And secondly, your first concern is actually which one will fit a rear facing car seat better. My advice would be to take the car seat to a dealer and see for yourself. My 2014 is nice, but with the youngest in a rear facing car seat for...

Hissing noise at 40+ mph for 2017 CX-5

Just for kicks, you could tape the entire perimeter of the moonroof on the top of the car. Just use something like electrical tape so it comes off easily. Close every last gap and drive to see if the noise goes away. Pull the tape back off and if you hear the noise again, something is up with...

    Grand Touring Tank Capacity

In tank fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel. Running it dry can potentially cook the pump. This also might be why our cars are telling us to fill up when there is actually some fuel left. It's not something that would kill the fuel pump just by doing it once, but some people are habitually bad...

2018 Consumer Reports Reliability: Spoiler Mazda #12

I'm not sure if something like the infotainment would factor into reliability (I don't think it should) but seriously, this forum is full of cry babies. I have been on a fair amount of automotive forums in my 20 or so years of internet and every time I pop in here, there is some new tiny...

2018 Consumer Reports Reliability: Spoiler Mazda #12

And here's an interesting result from a market where Mazda dominates. https://www.canstarblue.com.au/vehicles/cars/reliability/ It all depends.

    CD Player in a 2017

I'm curious to know if you had ever contemplated a lightly used 2016 over a 2017 due to the CD player. The 2017 is a significant redesign, but if CD's are this important to you, did you ever think it might be worth the trade off in features/styling? I'm actually super happy with my used 2014...

    CD Player in a 2017

I'm with you an CD's vs. streaming. However, I might be looking at giving in and ripping all my CD's to a lossless format on a flash drive with a capable read/write speed to see how it goes. Luckily, my 2014 does have a CD player.

    Transmission blown at 72K miles

Glad to hear it. I was hoping Mazda would help out considering the circumstances.

Small Oil leak for me too... :-(

Well, as expected, it was not immediately apparent where the leak is/was. They called me around 4:45 yesterday to let me know that they had fully cleaned the engine and drove it a bit to see if they could produce a leak, but didn't find anything. However, they actually provide a free oil change...

    Pioneer AVH-4000 NEX Install

    Pioneer AVH-4000 NEX Install

I was actually just about to drag this post up and ask this question. I see myself doing a head unit install in a year or so. It seems like everything on this website self destructs picture wise. What gives? It's bad enough Photobucket had to go and ruin a majority of useful how-to's all over...

    2017~2024 More luxury wanted..

I will say that the car is a good mix of tech/familiarity for me. I can ignore what I want to and still enjoy the perks. Even if I feel like the sensors are overkill, I do hope they ultimately make the roads safer for everyone.

    2017~2024 More luxury wanted..

I was actually thrilled when I figured out my 2014 had Halogen lights. HID is cool and all, but expensive if/when it fails, not to mention the troubles people have had with the LED DRL's. Simple halogen bulbs work great, are inexpensive, available everywhere, and can be replaced in a parking lot...

    2017~2024 More luxury wanted..

I know, right? Technically, I'm considered a Millennial. I should be the one griping about lack of tech on the car. But I'm also supposedly killing the car industry while living off of a trust fund. It's really hard to keep up.

    Magnetic Oil Drain Plug

I was actually going to recommend looking up the Fumoto part number because it will give you the thread size there. You can go to the front page and enter your car year and model to be on the safe side, but that should be the one for the CX-5. I don't know that they would have changed the thread...

    2017~2024 More luxury wanted..

To be clear, driver aids are great to aid the already good driver. I just get very wary when people talk about them as if they are the only possible way to drive when we have clearly gotten along without them for a long while. If someone is harping on how much better a backup camera is compared...
