2000 Protege Sedan or 1998 GMC Jimmy? For a beater

But how would an old truck not be a money pit? I do plan on taking care of whatever beater I get, I will only do whats needed. If Im getting an old truck, then this GMC Jimmy could do the same job.

Would you consider this to be a lot of rust? Would you buy this car?

Do you think the jimmy 98 or the protege sedan 00 will be any better for resell?

Would you consider this to be a lot of rust? Would you buy this car?

But then Id have to buy a roof rack. Those arent cheap. I found the interior space much more comfy on the wagon than the sedan. Plus the sedan looks like a granny car lol.

Would you consider this to be a lot of rust? Would you buy this car?

If I bought it, I wouldnt put any money in fixing the rust. Those wheel wells are inrepairable lol. Id put tape over it. The interior is pretty clean.

Would you consider this to be a lot of rust? Would you buy this car?

Seller says the under body, floor and strut towers have very minimal rust and that all the rust is on the wheel wells. She will sell for $1000cdn. Thoughts?

2000 Protege Sedan or 1998 GMC Jimmy? For a beater

What?! I always thought Jimmys have a different engine than a Blazer lol. Cause I know that Blazers are prone to problems. The Protege has the 1.8L. Its a LX model.

2000 Protege Sedan or 1998 GMC Jimmy? For a beater

Are Blazers and Jimmys the same? I always thought the trannys on these cars are awesome. My mech said the same as well in that the PRotege would be more reliable but he warned me about leaks on this gen of Proteges. I was concerned about buying an american car and this is definitely one of...

2000 Protege Sedan or 1998 GMC Jimmy? For a beater

For my uses, the Sedan would do fine. I wont be lugging big stuff often but it sure would be nice to at least have that option for when I do. But also milage is important as well and the Protege will obviously have better milage and most likely by 50% better if not more. Id hate to buy the...

2000 Protege Sedan or 1998 GMC Jimmy? For a beater

Im down to these two cars. It ultimately comes down to whether I want an SUV or a sedan as my 2nd car (beater). This car will be driven 5-6 days a week on highway and on gravel roads and super dirty environments. Right now i drive a coupe, so an SUV would perhaps compliment it better than a...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

i stuck a flashlight around the valve cover and no oil. My concern was the burning smell after we took it for a test drive lol. It wasnt a heavy burning smell but both of us noticed it after we took the car on the highway lol. They want $800 for the car which i think is reasonable and said if i...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

I test drove the red one and i cant tell exactly where the leak is coming from. The entire engine under had fresh oil. Either the oil pan or rear main engine seal. Smelt a burning smell after we took it on the highway lol. The tan protege looks good but the seller wont go lower than $1000...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

THey look the same to me, but I couldnt get a hold of that seller anyways and its out of my budget. I went and drove this one tonight. Am considering it, the seller needs to see if the timing belt has to done recently and will get backt to me tomorrow once he gets in touch with the guy who sold...

Just found this P5, looks flawless. Wow. http://www.bizcaf.ca/ads/2002-mazda-protage-5-on-sale_ad_447919.dhtml Too bad the price is $3000 lol

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

Ok thanks. Interesting, didnt know that. I always thought rust starts with the wheel wells first. My guess is that the girls yellow P5 has a ton of rust on the underbody, strut mounts, floor and trunk carriage if she already has that much on her rear wheel wells.

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

Though I much prefer a wagon for the extra cargo space alone, this red one might be the real deal. If I really want a wagon, I might have to look into something like a 2002 Ford Taurus SE but I cringe at the though of buying an american car (no offense lol). A Subaru outback I would consider but...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

Good point. Going by the pics on that yellow P5 with low milage, seeing how much rust is around the wheel wells, chances are the strut towers already have rust and perhaps the floor as well. My biggest concern is how are her rear struts already needing replacement? My guess is that theyre...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

Im running far and fast from that MSP trust me. I agree the hatch is better but it I need to see this other sellers red sedan first (if its got as little rust as she says in her ad) and I can knock down the $800 advertised price, ill go with hers since the girl with the rusted yellow P5 wont...

About to pull the trigger on a 2002 P5 Sport Wagon: What's the rundown of these cars?

Ok thanks. Yes I wont bother with the MSP simply cause the cost and insurance would be up there. I just need a beater haha. That car sure is nice though! But im not willing to spend $4500 on a beater.
