Just to close the loop on this one, it turned out that the #1 rod bearing had failed, seizing it to the crankshaft. We moved forward with having Jake Sweeney Mazda replace the engine (long block) for $6700 and have been very happy with the result.

On Apple Carplay, if you have trouble with Spotify not wanting to launch, unlock your phone and try again. For some reason the Spotify app never seems to launch on my phone/car unless the screen is unlocked. Once it is launched, I can lock the phone again.

Unfortunately the radio in the 2016 doesn't support the extra channels, or the logos, or more than 20 characters per line. My wife's 2017 Hyundai Tucson has a much superior SiriusXM experience for the same monthly price, with all of the aforementioned features.

I use a program called fatsort on linux to sort the files correctly. A quick search shows some Windows alternatives as well.

I had #3 in the exact same spot. Dealer replaced it under warranty. I think I only had about 6-8k miles on it at the time. No problems with the replacement piece.

Any chance you have a two-way radio or anything in the car? I've seen radio emissions from two way radios cause all kinds of problems. I worked at an event one time where every time we'd key up the handheld two-way radio near the cash registers, it would trip the breaker on the UPS battery...

Does that mean that Google Maps does not work at all? That would be the only reason I'd want to do this, so I could have traffic-aware navigation.

Just for a data point, I've average 30-31mpg per tank with a mix of 90%hwy/10%city. My CX-5 has about 2300 miles on it so far. In the picture below, I stuck to the speed limit exactly on my drive into work, which has a mix of 70, 65, and 55 mph zones, and includes the mile or two from my house...

For me it just made the audio sound monaural, and maybe even a bit "echoey", as if a reverb was added. I enjoy a strong center channel speaker in my surround sound at home for watching movies, not so much for music.

Which CX-5 do you own or are you looking at? I have the GT with Tech package, and I find the factory Bose system to be better than any factory stereo I've heard. With the bass turned up, both side mirrors and the rear view mirror are a blur. I personally don't keep the bass up like that...
