2018 GT - Compass in MFD

I think you've answered the question. The compass direction displayed in the dash is derived from the GPS not from the earth's magnetic field like an old school compass does. Therefore it only works while in motion. You can think of it as displaying the direction you're driving in, not the...

    How the AWD works.

Thanks for sharing. This article was written when Mazda did their ice academy, which explained their AWD system to the automotive press and took them on test drives. Here's David Coleman's video presentation of the AWD system. At the start of the second video he explains why they send 2% torque...

    Dash gas MPG reading

Somewhere in the setting, I don't remember exactly where, you can set it so that the mpg resets when you reset for Trip A. Most folks reset Trip A after e full tank so they get a reading based on each tank usage.

    2019 CX-5 Details

True. I don't understand why manufactures would outsource engine, transmission or suspension. These are key components of any vehicle. I'm glad Mazda do these in house.

For those complaining about our infotainment system

I think there's a hack to change the red color, but I haven't looked into it. Anyway, both of these things seems trivial, as one's focus should be on the road while driving. I don't understand the need for a moving image.

    Question from prospective buyer -

The volume knob by the Commander knob is simpler to use than the one by steering wheel. Its much faster and more precise.

Watch the live stream from the 2018 NY Auto Show - Mazda

I done a lot of of reading on the "Toyota way" of manufacturing and their line workers are empowered to stop production if there's an issue. It is not cheaper to fix things afterwards.

    Shady Dealer Madness

I couldn't agree more about "inspect, inspect, inspect". I go to the dealer for oil change and tire rotation. While they're doing these two things they will inspect all the other things listed without addditional charge. After all, checking these items to see if they can tack on additional...

Under the influence of adaptive cruise control

I agree. In another accident where the Tesla autopilot hit a trailer perpendicularly as it entered an intersection, Tesla released a statement reiterating that customers are required to agree that the system is in a "public beta phase" before they can use it. I think they also tweaked the...

2017 in dash alert "keep Hands On Wheel"

The G-vector system constantly measures steering wheel input. This is what's used to determine if your hands are off the wheel.

Carplay and Android Auto coming soon? Crossing fingers...

If I recall correctly, you don't have a CX-5 but you're active on this site. People with no interest in AA/Carplay, click on these threads for the same reason you post on a CX-5 site.

    2017 test drive CX-5 vs CR-V

Even with zoom set to automatic you can still zoom with commander knob. You need to hide the icons at the bottom first, as previously stated.

Mazda mobile start, anyone have it?

Has anyone considered Fortin EVO starter. I've looked at this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0047XSLLQ/?tag=m20b7-20 But haven't pulled the trigger. It uses your existing Mazda remote (triple click) to start. Cost is about $50 for the unit and about another $50 for the program used the program...

    Tire wear

I've seen many on these forums make the same complain about replacing original tires at 30K miles. I also had the same faith, I replaced at about 32K miles. Upon closer inspection on the spec on the OE Yoko tires it became apparent that they're rated for 30K miles.

Saw a 2017 CX-5 at the dealer today...

I agree. However, I never look at a car as an investment. It's an expense. For the same reason I don't think of spending $100 on grocery an investment. I don't expect to get a financial return on either.
