Is it possible to adapt a USB flash drive to emulate the dvd rom drive in order to get rid of this item? I know there's software that creates a copy of a dvd into an usb so you can use it as a virtual dvd, however what other adaptations have to be made in order to utilize this as a replacement...

seems like a lot of threads in this forum stay unanswered, had people already got defeated and no longer wanted to get a solution? This seems very interesting as in one comment mazda;s response was that "its not programmed on the computer" so maybe all hardware its there and only needs...

too bad I didnt read this thread before buying the used head unit :(, is the DVD unit too expensive? can a regular DVD reader work with some mods?

Have you done this? I have been looking for more information about doing this but cant find anything
