Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

Yeah I guess you didn't read the follow-up to this situation. South Dakota's government in March passed law that allowed 85 octane to be sold in the 9 Western counties, which happen to be high elevation. The bigger issue in SD was the gas wasn't labeled, and nobody disputes 85 Octane being...

Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

Off topic, but how do you find your 2.5 CX5 handles the traffic/climb to evergreen on a daily basis? You ever feel underpowered in heavier traffic on the climb up 70? That's probably as good of test as any as I know that stretch can get free for all at times :)

is the CX-5 a feminine car?

I tend to agree. I think I'd feel like a dad driving a mini van in the CRV or RAV4. Luckily my wife who couldn't care less about cars had this crazy obsession with the CX5. It was so uncharacteristic that I actually surprised her and bought it for her behind her back with 100% confidence. I...

    Show us your Tint...

I didn't get the front window done, but after seeing the thermal benefits it sure is tempting. Luckily in CO inspection stickers aren't required and even my local park pass has gone to a static cling type sticker so you can transfer between cars.

What is the thought process behind installing one of these? Just a layer of protection in case of accidents or trouble with police? Other uses?

Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

Humidity, temp, and barometric pressure vary everywhere all the time and if it was as significant as you felt people would be making regular decisions about ON based on current and forecasted variances. It's more than a few cents, but even if it was just one cent and science said "no brainer" I...

    Show us your Tint...

Just got mine done. Installer talked me into 20 as it is a touch darker than the factory rears (his meter read 25) and he thought it would balance the look out better given the extra light coming in from the windshield. In retrospect I'm glad I went darker because I think it looks great. <a...

Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

Also assuming the ASTM scientific study is accurate people running 87 at lower elevations are closer to knocking than someone in say Denver running 85 octane. Even if you take the midpoint of all studies you get 1.06 ON per 1000 feet. So that leaves even the folks at 3300 safe so for you...

Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

It seems that you are more concerned with being right than factual understanding of how higher elevations make this whole argument ridiculous. There is so little of this State that sits at 3300-3500 so if this is the technicality that you need to call all I can say is "oh well." My statement...

Benefits of High Octane at High Altitude?

85 octane is perfectly fine in a place like Evergreen, or anywhere else in CO for that matter.

20 Thoughts after owning my CX-5 for one week...

I think you should take the vehicle back. This also isn't meant to flame or cause trouble, but it is quite evident in your tone you made the wrong purchase. Some of this is Mazda's fault, and of course some of it is yours too. Get out from the CX-5 before it makes you even madder.

What did you pay for your CX-5?

Hey another new owner here. 2014 Mazda CX5 GT - AWD, Tech, Meteor Gray. I spent some time driving the 2.0 and 2.5 and decided I wanted the AWD and 2.5 for the CO mountains. The car is for my wife and she absolutely loves it. Purchased for $30,150 before TTL without a trade in.
