I cant say how easy or hard the installation is, because it depends on your personal knowledge and experience. I don't think you need a new tranny, just make sure that there is no additional damage. OEM LSD...

It definitely sound like the diff especially if its still the oem one. Most people get a factory diff but get it welded to avoid it from happening in the future, or another option is to get a M-Factory diff.
