I guess it's all a matter of personal preference and something different from standard colors,

but it just doesn't look right for me, a little lighter shade of metallic brown might look better.

Lexus and toyota have had a similar color for years. I generally call it "Rootbeer". lol

I guess they're going for that up-market look, as Monoxide mentioned Lexus, and I think Acura and Infiniti have something similar. Even seen some Audi A6's with it. But on all of them I don't really like it, and "RootBeer" would be a more appropriate name, because "Titanium Flash" makes me think of a deep silver metallic with red undertones/base coat (which would be SICK!

The Volvo XC60 comes in a color called Twilight Bronze that looks almost identical. It's a popular color on the XC60 as well as the XC70 and the new V60 Cross Country.

I actually like the color on the Volvos, but I agree that it doesn't quite "fit" the CX-9. The CX-9 looks best in Black, Meteor Gray, (and my two personal favorites) Liquid Silver and Blue Reflex. (Even though my CX-9 is Crystal White Pearl, I'm not that crazy about the color).

Titanium Flash and Crystal White Pearl also come with mandatory Sand interior and Black isn't an option. I like the Sand Leather in my 2012 because it was two-tone with dark gray inserts in the seats and the dash was a darker brown on top and Sand on the lower portion. Since 2013, Sand interiors have Black dashboards and the seats are just solid Sand/beige. I like the current Black interior much better with contrasting stitching and the (faux?)-suede trim on the door panels.

Funny, those would have been my first two choices for colors too (liquid silver and the blue relfex), but weren't available this late in the season without some substantial distance to travel. The meteor gray I have is growing on me though!

The CX-9 has always looked AMAZING in various shades of Silver and Gray. I remember when it was introduced back in 2007, the one used in almost all publicity photos was a color called Liquid Platinum. It looked awesome and to this day the Silver and Gray ones still look as sharp as ever! I've also been in love with Blue Reflex from the first time I saw it on the 2014 Mazda6 back in early 2013. When they made it available on the 2014 CX-9, I very seriously considered trading in my 2012 for 2014 GT FWD in Blue Reflex with Black interior & Tech Pkg. The only thing that stopped me was the fact that I paid cash for my 2012 and it would have been absurd to trade in a 14-month old vehicle and borrow about $8000!

I can definitely relate to your situation of buying late in the year and not getting your first (or second...) color choice. I bought my 2012 CX-9 GT on 11/30/2012. The significantly updated 2013 models were on dealer lots and the deals on remaining 2012s were almost too good to be true. When I went to buy mine, I hadn’t considered Crystal White Pearl as a possibility. There were only six colors available and White was in the next to the last position on my list (Copper Red was in last place). My favorites were Liquid Silver, Stormy Blue and Dolphin Gray. The only other option was Brilliant Black, but Black cars are way too hard to keep clean.

I started shopping about four weeks before I finally bought mine. I realized early on that finding the color/options/trim level combo that I wanted was going to be tough. I wanted a CX-9 Grand Touring and it had to be FWD (better fuel economy, less expensive) and the Bose/Moonroof/Sirius Pkg & Power Liftgate were a MUST. I also didn’t want the NAV system because it was outdated and the low-res screen annoyed me.

About two weeks into my search, I found one in Dolphin Gray with Sand interior, FWD and Bose/Moonroof but without NAV (and it was FWD). It was almost 400 miles away in Lexington KY but I was willing to make the trip if we could work out a good deal. We agreed on a good price and I was ready to go pick it up the next day. But when they faxed me the sales docs, I realized that it actually had the Rear Seat DVD player wth Bose/Sirius (which meant NO moonroof)! It was a deal-breaker. =(

I was very surprised by how many CX-9 GTs I found that didn’t have the Moonroof/Bose package. I can see why they had trouble selling a vehicle for over $35k that lacked a moonroof, had a fairly basic 6-speaker stereo, no sat radio and a manual liftgate. But the most common was a GT AWD with Moonroof/Bose and NAV. When I finally found one with the features I wanted and nothing that I didn’t, I decided to just live with the color since I was basically ambivalent about the Crystal White Pearl. It stickered for $38,385 and with the incentives and some haggling, I paid $29,207 plus sales tax! For $9,178 (or 24%) off, I could learn to like any color….except Copper Red!

I was watching an episode of Car Matchmaker last week, and Spike was going off on his rant about car colors, and how a vast majority of cars on the road are white, black, silver or gray; and as he was saying it, they were passing by a parking lot with 75% of the cars those colors. It was kind of amusing--but it just goes to show that those colors are popular for a reason.

My wife's CX-9 is Copper Red, and we absolutely love it. That said, if they offered the dark gray in '12, we would have gotten that.

I know what you mean about packages. It's funny the 9 didn't really have THAT many options, really just the one per trim level, but gets difficult to get exactly what you want. When I had my last car I said "NEVER AGAIN" to a color that I wasn't in love with (the silver for my wagon grew on me though). But then when you actually think about it, the color could be changed, but adding a moon roof can't, lol!

GT's around here though were ALL AWD, no doubt about that. Most touring's were too, but Sport's were about 50/50.

Color is funny, like a self perpetuating problem. Manufacturers say, "Oh, well no one is buying the more "interesting" colors... Black, Grey, Silver and White are what sell!" Then the dealers order pretty much 90% of those colors on any given model, because the MFG says it sells! Then when you go to a lot, BAM! All you have to choose from are the 4 shades. Well, you want a new car, so you go ahead and settle on a color. Which means that color sold, and the MFGs were proven right! HAHA!

But seriously, if the CX-9 came in the new emerald green that the Chevy Colorado comes in, I would have died!

Prior to buying my 2006 Mazda3, I owned Hondas and Acuras for more than 15 years (starting with my first car). With Honda you had to just pick the trim level (LX/EX/EX-L....or even DX, back in the day) that included the features you wanted and take whateverelse came with it. If you wanted a moonroof, you typically had to pay for larger wheels/tires, a more powerful engine, upgraded audio system and a dozen other things. Upgrading from an Accord LX to EX just to get a moonroof could cost you as much as $4k and add a ton of other features you didn't want or need! Back in the 80s and well into the 90s, every exterior color had a mandatory interior color- period. My grandfather made a 50% down payment on a 2002 Accord EX 4-door for my high school graduation and I spent weeks (months maybe) agonizing over my color choice. I liked the Arctic White, but that meant Blue interior. I liked the interior color that Honda so creatively called 'Brown-Red' but I had to choose Seattle er or Rosewood Brown exterior to get it. I ended up with the White and actually grew to love the Blue fabric interior (somewhere between a Royal Blue and Navy Blue, a Smurf would have felt at home)! =)

My point is that I like the way the current CX-9 options are grouped in a reasonably priced package. I know what a CX-9 GT with and without the Technology Package includes and don't have to search for individual options.

I just leased a 2015.5 Volvo S60 (see signature) and it took over six weeks to finally track down one in the color combo and with the features I wanted. I got the S60 T6 Platinum which has a lot of safety and tech features standard. But even with thousands of dollars of high-tech safety, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) is still an option!? And it seems absurd that an upscale/premium car with a $45k+ sticker doesn't have standard heated seats, but they are also an option. I also wanted the awesome 19" Diamond Cut Alloys instead of the standard 18" standard issue wheels and that was another separate option that I had to find in conjunction with BLIS and Heated Seats. On top of that, I wanted one of the less popular colors (a beautiful dark blue called Caspian Blue Metallic) and I wanted the least common interior color called Beachwood (sort of a Butterscotch hue on the front of the seats, black on the seat backs and black carpet and dash). Finding that trim level, in that color combo with those options was nearly impossible. I was almost ready to bite the bullet and custom order it from the factory in Belgium, but that would take at least three months to arrive. Ordering also takes away the bargaining power that you have with an in-stock car. Luckily, my 'perfect match' appeared at a dealer in Maryland and my dealer here in Atlanta did a dealer trade for it.

I'm a fan of option packages like the CX-9's Technology Package as long as they're priced reasonably. The GT Technology Package stickers for $2435 and includes Power Moonroof, Navigation System, 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint Audio System and SiriusXM sat radio. Even if you just wanted the Moonroof, the other features will probably grow on you and they'll definitely help at trade-in/sell time.
