Review:
Nothing but good news all around. First, I was highly impressed with japanparts.com. My order was delivered in 8 days despite shipping time being estimated at 10-15 days. Second, no drilling required! The plate is installed using only adhesive tape (see pics), so it took about 10 minutes. My only complaint is with the plate itself: I'm not a fan of the black rubber edging. The CX-7 label in the center is a very nice touch, however.

Enjoy the pics, and feel free to ask questions.

so how much did you pay?

$175. I suspect that was about $50 more than it would cost had I just waited until it became available in the US catalog, but I'm tired of waiting on Mazda.

Looks AWESOME! A bit pricey for me but I'd love to add that...bet they have them for inside each door too. I want piano black b pillar trim for the doors and the front air dam.

@ jmhumr: I'm ordering one soon. How did you remove the black bumper plate?

My CX-7 didn't come with the black plastic bumper plate, so I didn't have to remove anything. Don't take my word on it, but I'd assume it is adhered with double-sided tape just like the chrome one. Perhaps call a dealership and confirm - the black one is a US accessory so they should at least know how it is installed.

If the black one is in fact adhered with double-sided tape, try using dental floss to remove it. Then clean up the goo with some paint-friendly cleanser or bug/tar remover.

All the step plates are 3M taped to the bumper.

I don't think they'll EVER offer it here. They used to have a chrome one for Tribute that style but changed it for 2004 (off the top of my head I think that's right) to the all black style. But the chome one still fits later Tributes.
Chrome is big in Japan. Not so much here anymore.
