Anyway to improve acceleration? (2014 MAZDA 6)

You've already got a cold air intake from the factory. It pulls air in just behind the grille. Don't go for one of those reusable filters either. Filters that actually do something need to restrict airflow out of necessity. Lower restriction with the same surface area ALWAYS equals less...

    Winter tires / wheels

I've done the math and I should roughly break even at the end of the 10 years I expect to own this car. 17" Snow tires cost about half as much as good 19" tires and I'll be on them 40% of the year. The expensive tires will only see wear during the remaining 60%. This should about pay for the...

    Winter tires / wheels

I was leaning towards 215 instead of 225 for that very reason. It's good to see someone else coming to that conclusion as well.

    Winter tires / wheels

Update: I've chosen to go with stock 17" wheels for my snow tires. I found a set (well, actually, 3 wheels from one person and one from another) for just over $600. Not such a bad deal since they should be stronger than the gravity cast cheap rims on TireRack etc. Not to mention the warranty and...

    Snow and Ice Performance

I'm saving up for snow tires. My 6 needs them without question. With the right combination of snow and ice I occasionally felt like I didn't have enough control of the car at any speed. Stability control works very well, my old car (an '02 Envoy) didn't have it. Braking was better than my old...

    H11 LED Fog Light Bulbs

I wasn't aware that fog lights were ever supposed to be of any use. I had them on my last car and they were 100%, fully, completely useless. I even had a salesman tell me that fog lights aren't really meant for anything but looks.

    Third-gen Mazda6 reliability - let's get better info

I've added my car to the mix. Thanks for the heads up!

Owners with BOSE Stereo system - How do you like it?

Like many Bose products, it has an abundance of midbass but nothing lower. It could use a well-blended sub to bring the bass down lower without it being obvious that it's there. I turned the bass down and the treble up slightly to balance the sound to my ears. I usually have a strong dislike...

Current owners: What would you tell a new buyer?

One negative discovered today: If the car gets coated in ice, the fuel door gets stuck shut and has to be freed by chipping away between the gap. I got it open after multiple tries but then the gas cap wouldn't come off! Upon closer inspection, the plastic tether is supposed to rotate...

Current owners: What would you tell a new buyer?

Some of what others see as benefits to the GT I see as cons. Leather needs more maintenance. The sunroof lowers the headroom enough that I couldn't raise the seat to where I wanted it on the car I test drove (I'm 6'3"). And the HID bulbs are much more expensive to replace. But there are pros as...

Current owners: What would you tell a new buyer?

Touring / Tech package is definitely the sweet spot in the product line. I'm very happy with mine. The blind spot monitoring/rear cross-traffic alert radars work as advertised and once saw an approaching car 40-60ft away when backing up. I've only had it for a couple weeks now. Read the manual...

    Mazda Service Support System

Thanks! ... Wait, you have to remove the intake manifold to change the PCV valve? (scratch)

Which gas is better for the engine?

If possible, I'd look for non-ethanol 87 from one of these: http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html They all sell gas with more than the EPA mandated amount of detergent. Even if you have to get an ethanol blend where you live the listed stations should provide a better product.

    '14 Nav/Radio/Head Unit Petition for S/W Update!

I sure hope so. We also have to factor in that if such team were disbanded, someone else at Panasonic would have to take the time to familiarize themselves with the codebase. If it's really as bad as people say it is (I haven't taken delivery of the car yet), it might need quite a bit of...

    '14 Nav/Radio/Head Unit Petition for S/W Update!

Unfortunately, this petition assumes that the team who developed the software for the head unit still exists. Sanyo - reportedly its manufacturer - was recently acquired by Panasonic. If that division was closed down or transferred it's entirely possible that we will never see an update.
