Cross Country in a 2016 GT

I'm in the process of moving from the Pacific NW to NW Arkansas. This is around 2200 miles. I elected to drive my CX-5 GT along with a couple hundred pounds of stuff that were not in storage. So, it's like me and a passenger. Here are some of my observations so far for a long distance trip...

intuitive "no look" activation of sport mode switch

Since you have a 370Z I can see why a CX-5 in any mode might be a bit tame. When I hit town and get settled in we could get together and you could drive mine in sport mode. I'm currently in South Dakota after some amazing scenic drives through Idaho and Wyoming. I have a big crush on Wyoming...

intuitive "no look" activation of sport mode switch

Unobtanium... you just don't get it. Wait, you said that already. Nevermind. ;) I did not like sport mode at first, in just everyday driving. Waste of revs. I don't think much of the manual shift mode either. Especially the lag in upshifts. Where I found the sport mode really shines is...

30 MPG.... Unicorn or Golden Retreiver?

I've gotten as high as 31.5 (2016 GT AWD). Generally around 26. Today I drove 600 miles. The first 2/3 involved a couple of passes (mountain) and steady 75 mph in light traffic, netting 27.5. Last third was mostly steady 85 mph and that got me 25.5.

    17" vs 19" winter tires

How long does the cold season last in Jersey City? You won't go zoom zoom on that weather anyway so who cares about alloys. Get some flat black steel wheels and good snow tires for cheap. You'll look commando and save some bucks to spend when you go touring on the 19's in the summer

spacers for stock 19in wheels - sizes

Interesting discussion. I have a question. Is there any difference in the change in suspension loads (and possible affects on bearing life) of moving the wheels by changing the wheel offset versus installing spacers? I would think there isn't but like to hear any other opinions. Thanks.

    Lift Kit Interest

thejeans... I would be interested in a lift as well. Your wheels and tires look good. Do you get a lot of crap on the side of your car with those tires and that offset when you're on a muddy road? I am a former Forester owner and have some academic experience with Subaru Forester lifts...

    Interior door protection?

Yeah. That looks good, except for the red trim. Was thinking more along the lines of clear adhesive film but that might work too. Or, I could quit kicking the door. (2thumbs)

    Interior door protection?

I tend to kick the lower part of the interior door panel when entering and exiting a vehicle, especially when I'm wearing my clod hopper hiking boots. Does anyone know of a protective film (maybe like the 3M stuff) that I could apply to protect the surface of the door panels?

    HKS Touring Spec-L exhaust

I think I would buy the aggressive tips you want and have a muffler shop weld them on, since that is all you said you are interested in.

    New CX-5 Owner clocking in

Thought about it. Drove one. Great motor. CVT with "sport" enhancements was ok. Drivers seat was flat and not very supportive. Lower MPG and preferred premium fuel. More expensive by about 3K. Styling was stodgy but functional. Would have been my 4th forester in 15 years (first of the...

    New CX-5 Owner clocking in

Hello. I'm a new 2016 CX-5 GT owner. It has the tech package and is Titanium Flash Mica. This is my fourth Mazda... 2 Miata's and an RX3 (bought new way back in the day... that dates me for sure). I've been driving a Forester and decided I wanted something more sporty looking and...
