It works I've got two 8 inch free air subs mounted in my rear deck lid and I think they sound just fine. That lid is a lot more sturdy than you may think. Go for it.

Spoolin said it can take upto 2 month for the back to fully settle. He's having the rears made differently, so that's no longer the case.
