2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

For me I have already had it replaced twice. I only had about 30k on a fluid change when it failed the second time. Some people have good luck changing the fluid but not worth the effort in my opinion when there are other vehicles out there that do not require this to be done.

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

I would not recommend this generation of vehicle to anyone. I changed the transfer case fluid and it still failed. My wife does mostly city driving so that may have caused it. I will be trading this in once we get close to the end of the warranty. It is a shame because it is a nice vehicle...

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

Transfer case failed with about 18k on royal purple. I purchased the extended warranty on the car so it was covered $2300. God was good to me on this one, the warranty was about $1800 and still have about 20k miles left on it.

Thoughts on my recent purchase of a 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring

I would walk away if you plan on keeping the car for a long time.

Looking to buy 2014 or 2015 CX-9. Issues to be aware of?

Search transfer case and water pump issues on the cx 9 awd. I believe the 2014 and 2015 versions have had these problems.

    Transfer case concerns

I would be concerned. I have a 2010 grand touring that had 34k when I purchased it. I would call the dealer and make sure you are still covered under the extended Mazda warranty. There are posts on here on how to change the fluid in the transfer case. It isn't that hard. I did it before an...

Thoughts on my recent purchase of a 2012 CX-9 Grand Touring

If I would have known about the transfer case problem within the 2000 mile warranty from the dealer I would have returned the it. But now I do the fluid changes and I don't feel so bad about it. My wife loves the thing so I am stuck with it for a while. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's what happened to me. I didn't find this forum until after I owned my cx 9 for a while. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a 2010 cx 9 grand touring. Do you have awd? If so search the forum for various problems with the transfer case and water pump failures. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

Took the trip this past week with no issues except one of the heat shields toward the back came loose and rattled for the last hour of the trip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

Just a follow up the fill plug had a good amount of burnt sludge on it. The fluid pumped out easily and was not sludge yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

I completed the change of fluid in the transfer case today on my 2010 grand touring. Has about 16k on this fluid in a replacement transfer case. The hardest parts were getting the plug loose for the first time and cleaning up the fluid that dropped out after the fill. That part got a little...

what to look for in 2012 CX-9

Stay away from the awd models. If you search transfer case issues in the forum and you will see. I would stay away from this generation of cx9s altogether. I have a 2010 that I had the transfer case replaced at 34k. Bought the car used and didn't find the forum until after the purchased the...
