I have a2001 Mazda protege mp3 and have to do a motor swap could anyone tell me what would be the best engine to put in it.

I have a 01 protege mp3 and looking to do an engine upgrade. Anyone know of a motor I could swap into it? Looking for a little more hp. Don't know if I should go with a jdm or go back factory?
