    2013 CX-5 MT wearing out.

Watching that video posted early in this thread sounds like the squeak is coming from under the dash? I would think if it's coming from the engine compartment you wouldn't hear it from inside the vehicle. If you're hearing it from inside I'd say it's the clutch master cylinder making the noise.

I've been in the same situation as you, replacing leaking water pumps before timing belts are due. I gave up on after market pumps and just get a genuine VW pump now. I actually recently had the thermostat housing warp and started leaking so I had to pull the front-end apart again for that. For...

I don't go more than 75k miles on belt changes anymore. It's just not worth chancing for me anymore. In that picture the radiator support it pulled away some. I thread the rods into the front frame and then just slide the support forward about 8".

I've had an 02 and 05 Passat GLX 2.8V6 and the timing belt is only a ticking time bomb if you don't replace it when you should. I did have an idler go bad on the 02 that caused it to jump time and resulted in this.

    CX-5 Diesel--worth the price premium?

It's illegal everywhere in the states just some states don't actually look for it because there's no emissions testing. EPA regs trump all state laws when it comes to emissions.

VW's newer TDI engines are far from trouble free. Cracked DPF's, failing high pressure fuel pumps, intercooler icing, some very costly repairs. The older TDI engines were a different story, mostly very reliable but some were still problem engines especially the ones used in the B5.5 Passat with...

    DPF? Diesel Particulate Filter.

In Connecticut diesel is usually about 30-40 cents more per gallon.

You get a lot for the money with the VW's. My plan was to swap my 14 TDI for a new Jetta with the 1.4T and a manual transmission. But, VW dropped the ball so badly with the whole buyback process that I decided to step away from them for a while. Maybe I'll be back in a few years but it was just...

I'll also add that we'll still own an 05 Passat GLX 4Motion wagon that is my wife's winter car. We've had it since 08 and it's got 120k miles on it. We outfit it with studded snow tires for her and she loves it in the snow. The thought we have now is to replace it with a CX-5 in a couple years...

We're selling our 14 Jetta TDI back tomorrow. We replaced it about 2 months ago with a used 11 Mazda 3s Sport with the 2.5 and 6 speed manual.

I know my diesel Jettas fill pipe was designed to not let a gas nozzle fit. I have literally tried it just for fun while at a multi gas/diesel pump.

It's in the exhaust system, sort of like a catalytic converter with sensors and other things going into it.

    CX-5 Diesel--worth the price premium?

Yes, it's one time only. The vehicle goes through a regen process where it super heats the filter to burn out the contaminants but after a while it can no longer be cleaned, at that point if throws a check engine light and will need to be replaced. Like a said in an earlier post, the VW DPF was...

Hard to say on the Mazda. For the VW just the part alone was $1400 not including labor.
