My experience is sometimes they just dont budge beyond a certain point, no matter how hard you try. Its their loss if they do...someone else might come along whos not as good of a negotiator. Factor in the risk that you lose the deal over just a few hundred dollars, and that this happens...

I'm just picturing trying to clean something you can't even see clearly....seems impossible to do a thorough job without leaving small bits of debris behind! Is the debris hard enough to do any damage or does it just harmlessly disintegrate and get blown out the exhaust?

I've noticed you mentioned this lack of insulation thing a few times. Do you basically mean the car has a poor "R-value" so heat easily exchanges between the cabin and exterior (heat "flowing" in during summer, out during winter). Is this the kind of insulation you refer to, which the CX-5...

How much risk of damage is there due to not removing 100% of the loosened debris? Could small bits of carbon wind up damaging things inside the cylinder, for example if they get wedged between the piston and cylinder wall? Or is that not really an issue?

Looking at the pic in your original thread, I still think it's worth a shot to try and remove the remainder of the coating to establish a consistent surface to which you can apply a fresh layer or a standard protective film. The correct coating or film will make the screen fully visible again...

LOL whoever did that was not having a good day and took it out on your car! May want to check that they didn't just duct tape the hitch to the frame, too.

I read something similar about white stain coming from the side mirrors. Something about corrosion (normal?) occurring inside/behind the mirror assembly and dripping down the door leaving a chemical stain. The fix was apparently to change a gasket to redirect the drip into the door.

This jives with the estimated wait time when I tried to call Mazda last week. It was more than a few hours! (Needless to say I was unable to get a hold of anyone) Can one be enthused about practicality?

So I have a road trip coming up, and thought it would be nice to rent a CX-5. It's looking unlikely I'll own one before the trip... Do any of the big rental companies have CX-5's? Guess I could call them myself but thought I'd check here first.

I don't know what the laws are in your area, but AFAIK the only thing that matters is what you signed. They may have excused themselves from having to provide warranty service.
