XelderX's BG FSP Build

Wow. That car is fast and easy to go through those slaloms...
What's your gearing like? What do you top out on 2nd?

Yea. Slaloms are something the Protege does really well. The rear of the car is setup to be really compliant and not prone to snap oversteer. It gives a ton of confidence for fast transitions, but you have to be aggressive with steering inputs or it gets pushy. It makes it tougher to carry speed in the slow sections as the car doesn't rotate as easily, but that is what we are trying to fix with more rear spring and some aero. The car is also deceptive in it's size. It's the exact same width as a Miata...just a little longer, taller, and heavier.

Using a gearing calculator we should be able to hit 65mph in second gear.

She's looking mean!

Thanks. I ordered an oil fitting tee from you a few months ago. Thanks for still having them available. It made my oil pressure gauge install much easier. It looks like Corksport is starting to phase out stuff for the older Proteges. Maybe a good market for you. There are a ton of guys still turboing and doing V6 swaps on the old Proteges and Escorts.

Damn, you didn't hit the limiter from that video, how fast were you going approximately?

Not sure...Data says 67mph, but I don't think it's right since we weren't in the limiter...or our limiter isn't set right. I've never seen the car go faster than 63-64 in second gear and that was with the limiter set to 7600 instead of 7200 like it is right now.

O_O. I gotta step my game up!

I find friendly reminders to help:

This is not the year to get lazy in FSP. Several guys are really pushing hard to be faster this year, me included. I've put more effort and development into my car in the last 3 months than in the last 3 years. I know you are watching the action in Lincoln as closely as I am.

Interesting. I'm betting Ron Williams and McNamara were on 13"s as they don't have co-drivers. Jinx had some of the best 60ft times though...he could be testing something for the tour. If he was on 15"s I would expect him to have slightly slower acceleration. I guess I'll have to wait for the Tour results.

Not sure what's up with Jinx but I always thought it's the car. Now that everyone knows the Civic would probably be the easiest car to mod/drive in the class, everyone is getting onto with the swap. Ron threw a smackdown on one side and secured the win.

I have more changes to make but I am not sure how well it would be, we will see.

We ran another event last Monday and I can confirm that the 67mph recorded at the previous event was wrong. This event was on a roadcourse with offsets/slaloms on the straights. We were in 3rd gear a lot and the fastest speed the DL-1 recorded was only 71mph.

Fishing around and recognized your car. I was working the course at Carolina Motorsports Park on Memorial Day while you were running. Looked really impressive. I was running a Mazda3 in ST. Hope to see your car out at CCR events again soon. Best of luck at Nationals!

Thanks. I'll be back down there for the NCAC in October if my work schedule doesn't conflict. I've been trying to go back to Black Lake too, but haven't been able to for a few years because of work.

Great thread man. I love following it ...right up until the point where you remind me that you can run events in October and on :( I'll be dealing with frost and cold by then.

Can I ask what you're running for wheels and alignment right now?

I'm running 205/50 15 on a 15x7.5 rim with -2.5 up front and ~-2 in the back. The rear is a litte overdone for tighter technical courses but the car feels ok on the more open / high speed courses.
Just curious to pick your brain :p

We run a 15X10" rim on the front and 15X8" on the rear. 275/35-15 and 225/45-15 tire respectively. We are planning to drop to a 205 series rear tire on the same 15X8" rim for next season. On the alignment we are running around -2.7 camber in the front and I think -1.5 in the rear.
