Watch Mazda Assembly Line

Interesting video. That’s one high tech assembly line. Where I used to work, we had a robot stationed inside of an enclosed computer tape library. Robots are dangerous to be around because they can’t sense the presence of people. At least the one we had was like that. If we had to enter the tape library, we had to shut the robot off first.

The front fenders of the car are a single unit and bolted onto the car. The rear fenders, C-pillar, and roof are one single sheet of metal. This must make it harder to manufacture and to repair. Why is it done this way? Can’t the rear fenders, C-pillars, and roof be separate units and bolted onto the frame like the front fenders are?

Weight, rigidity and cost.

I was contracted in at a Nissan plant back in the late 90's to work on the stamping presses... car manufacturing plants are absolutely fascinating places...

The employees are all dressed like they are going to surgery. Neat and clean uniforms.

Ever see a GM factory? They were jean shorts, cut off shirts, they are dressed like they are going to the beach.
