Towing - pop up trailer towing with their CX-5

Sadly I did not do more research myself to fact-check the salesperson who told me I could tow a trailer as heavy as 2000lbs. I had been looking at trailers with a dry weight of around 1500lbs, thinking that would be max. However, the owners manual says that Total Tow Weight has to include 2 passengers, the hitch weight and all the gear and stuff. I had not accounted for the 2 passengers or the hitch weight. Here's where I'm unclear - if you are not towing 2 passengers, why do you need to allow for their weight? Can anyone "weigh in" on this? :giggle:

Depends on the country as to the allowable towing capacity. It is as high as 2000 kg, with trailer brakes and sane speed limits, in some countries.

Mine tows 3300+ lbs beautifully, better than I do.

What do you tow that weighs that?

An R-Pod 180 with a full black tank that indicated only 1/3 full. That was 250 unexpected pounds.
