Spot on AZjoeD
Heard a rattle a couple of weeks ago got worse
Even louder checked this forum removed plastic inserts nuts dropped off unbelievable
The nuts must have been ratting up against the steel sat inside the inserts
Quick fix loctite the nuts tighten back up
Cheers AZjoeD

I have spent a lot of time chasing this noise down. I spent a lot of time playing around with the tailgate, but that wasn't the problem.

Just tighten up these two nuts and rest easy.

Finally got around to searching around for an answer to this rattling noise, and it looks like I let this get a little too severe before addressing the problem. The nuts under these two black caps are completely gone. Yesterday when closing my lift gate, I heard one fall through the body of the tailgate. I pulled off the plastic cover on the inside of the tailgate to check the other two to make sure my spoiler is still there, and they look secure, so I'm okay temporarily I think. Does anyone know the specific part to replace the two nuts under the black caps? And secondly, how the hell do I get the other two nuts that fell off out of the inside of the tailgate?! Thanks for any help.

Hi could you please elaborate further, i have this annoying rattle for 3 months now that i could not locate.
Fold your seats down and drive. See if noise is still there. If it is gone with folded seats, it is likely the clamp that holds seats in place. I had to use a piece of rag to make it tighter that there is no play which made the noise. It was the middle one in my case.

My dealer fixed this exact issue. In my case the rear wing was wobbly. Also my rear 2016.5 center windshield mirror was wobbly too. They said its tight - but still tightened it.

Thanks for this... fixed my issue

I just went to fix my somewhat loose wing and all 4 of the nuts were off and located inside the rear door plastic trim. Crazy!

Inside of the door plastic trim? Can you describe the area to look? I*m gonna have to check our CX5, because we get a rear rattle from the back like described in this thread... so I just want to be prepared on where to search for missing nuts.... (LOL - that just doesn*t sound right)...

It is the plastic cover, that covers the inner side of the rear hatch. Most likely, they fell all the way to the bottom of the door.
