Spark Plug Recommendations

:
2008 Mazda5 GT
Time for plugs. The OM (dated) has two plugs identified (LFG1 118110 and L3Y2 18110). It looks like the LFG1 is defunked. The updated 0000-18-L3Y2 equals NGK ILTR5A-13G. I cannot find any tech info on OE plugs on NGKs site but this could be bc they are branded Mazda. The closes match seems to be the OE Series LTR5BI-13. I plan to stick with NGK but their catalog offers 3 options without an exact match.

OM: Spark-plug gap 1.25―1.35 mm (0.049―0.053 in)

The pre-gapped setting for the lower tiers plugs appears to be off. They should to be adjust to fit the OEM recommend range. Also, since it is unlikely Ill keep this car for another 90K, I may settle for a lower durability plug in the Iridium IX but the G-Power is ridiculously cheap.

Interesting question. A quick search shows the following compatibility. Notice ’06 and ’07 are not included!? Seems older cars use a different set. Wonder what’s different in the ignition system?

So what plugs are folks using?

Thanks for posting the details. In my '14MY I'm still 30K+ miles away from the recommended replacement. When I do get to that point, I intend to go with NGK Iridiums.

I ran NGK's in car Mazda5 replaced and they worked great. Have a set ready to go for another vehicle but I have 20K or so miles to go. Not sure why I bought them so early...

There were never that many 5's and not many folks wrench on their own vehicles, especially minivans. There's a small but dedicated following here, but many folks have moved on too.

Splurged on the all copper LTR5BI-13. Figure I'm done with spark plug maintenance for the life of my ownership.

At 96K, the OEM plugs came out looking pretty good. Except cycliner #1 (near oil fill hole), which got a fresh coat of oil on the threading and tip as it came out. Leads me to believe I now need to replace the valve cover gasket... Still need to clean the EGR too.
