Sirius XM issues on a 2019 CX5 GT

Deer,
The problem I just had almost was like I didn't even have a subscription. When I restarted the CX5 after 15 minutes in the new store it went to channel 0 flashed the Radio iD#. I had a couple of XM channels in the favorites and it worked from there.
I've never had that. XM just was not there...it went to FM. I've had XM since the early days. As you stated, going to Station 0 is what you get when you have no subscription.

Funny, I have never had any issue with my original Delphi receiver (still using it after 30 years), the XM in my Chevy S-10, and the XM in my GMC Canyon. But there is certainly not this level of technological complexity in any of them. And the majority of my XM issues have been with Voice Recognition, as though the database did not fully load.

AD,
I just had the Sirius XM problem on start-up. The location sometimes doesn't get the signal well and the system was on mute, just fishing for reasons. On start-up I got XM not available and it went to Ch.1 the preview channel. I went to my favorites because I have a few XM channels I hit one and it started to receive the XM system. I will relay this to Mazda see if this helps them.

I had my car serviced early last month (oil change, tire rotation.) I asked them to update the software for me, as long as it was in the shop anyway. The scheduler told me not to expect the update to fix my XM issues.

We'll see...

I have had several "fail to load" issues recently, and I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or not, but almost every single time it was raining out / the car was wet with rain from overnight.

Not sure if it's just ironic, or if that has something to do with the problem.

2019 CX5 GT Reserve. Two weeks ago, my oil light started coming on. I took it to the dealer and they said it was an issue with the system and they had rebooted everything and taken care of it. Now I'm having this issue with Sirius not loading. It's not every time, but I would say about 50% of the time it's not working and I keep getting the channel 0 and the free 300 range channels.

I have had my CX-5 GTR for over a year. This issue is still ongoing. Have had my Infotainment System replaced and Updated. Better, but still have issues with SiriusXM not working on first startup at least once a week. Bo Fix yet??? Unbelievable this could drag on for so long.

Canadian here with a 2019 Signature.

This happened to me JUST this morning.

I can confirm that is has nothing to do with trial periods, because I had an active subscription on my Mazda 6 that was transferred over to the new CX5 last month. THey tacked on the 3 month trial to the end of my current subscription.

Mine was working perfectly fine last night when I parked the car. Turned the car on this morning, and the FM radio came on (which I *never* listen to).

When I tried to switch to SiriusXM, I got the same message as you got "Channel unavailable".

However, channels 300-306 were there, and were listenable.

I initially tried to re-send the signal (something you can do yourself from your siriusxm Online account), waited about 30 minutes, then I cold-booted the system (Return button, mute and NAV pressed together I think?).. System rebooted, and problem still existed.

Got into work, parked, came in for about 45 minutes, and decided to go out to try to troubleshoot.. Switched on SiriusXM, and voila - everything was fine.

I'm going to mention it to the dealer when I take it in the first service JUST to have it documented, but I believe its a software issue versus a hardware issue.

As mentioned above by someone else, I THINK it might have to do with how quickly you try to change the Infotainment screen when turning it on first time. I'm going to be more cognizant about letting it completely and 100% boot up before I start mucking around with it to see if its an end-user issue lol.

MIGHT be an ID10T error on my behalf.

I have my CX-5 GTR for over a year and still have intermittent issues. Had my entire Infotainment System replaced and Updated. Better than before, but still have this issue around once a week on initial startup. NO Fix yet. Unbelievable that this could drag on for so long. Wonder how many cars are affected?

I suspect all xm (travellink) equipped CX5's exibit these errors. Possibly all xm radio CX5's do it but I suspect its the XMtravelink implementation causing this since it seems to be a 2019+ issue.

Yes, Traffic Plus dos not work properly either. Still so frustrating that Mazda nor SiriusXm cannot
fix this!

I have the same issue on a 2020 MX-5; very frustrating; Sirius blames Mazda, and vice versa!

I'm experiencing a pretty annoying issue with Sirius XM on my 2019 CX5 GT: upon starting the car (and waiting about a minute or so for the boot routine to complete) Sirius XM will not always work and the screen will display a message similar to "Siriu XM channels unavailable". In 80%-90% of the cases Sirius XM works. A few observations: if I select anything on the infotainment menu before allowing the system to finish the boot routine it's almost guaranteed that Sirius XM won't work and will display the above message.

I suspected an antenna issue of some sorts but while the system displays the unavailability of Sirius XM channels, I have no issues tuning into the, I think free, Sirius XM channels - there are about 10 free (?) channels upwards of channel 310.

Resending the signal request doesn't fix the issue. The only procedure that helps sometimes is turning the system off and wait for a few minutes, but again it's a guessing game if Sirius XM works after that. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Worth mentioning is that prior to my CX5 GT I owned a 2015 Mazda 6 GT and I never ever had an issue with Sirius XM in that car.

I called Sirius XM about this and, as expected, they said the issue is not with them but rather with my unit in the car and I should raise this with Mazda.

Following that advice, I had Mazda dealer update the firmware to the latest one available but that hasn't fixed the issue either.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any thoughts?
I think I Posted the same issue weeks ago. Sad that so many customers have this issue. Glad to know that it is not just me.

Maybe we can file a Class Action Suit against Mazda? I have this issue from Day 1, March 2019. Replaced my entire Infotainment System and updated Software. Better but still have this issue about once a week or so. We all paid for Satellite Radio and cannot enjoy it due to these issues!!!

Any suggestions? I report my issue to Mazda and my Dealer every time it happenes. No Fix!!

That's interesting.

I had my 2019 Reserve in for routine maintenance back in March and--since they had it anyway--requested they update the infotainment software. The Scheduler did a preemptive "It won't fix any XM issues you're experiencing." Abraded much???

It's good to know there's a real fix coming for those who are having issues. Of course, the questions still hang:

-Why doesn't every car have these issues (mine doesn't)
-If these are caused [to some degree] by conflicts with XM software upgrades, what about the next XM-driven upgrade?

/unabashed rhetoric

I hope it works. I'll be watching here for side-effects to see if I should take the risk.

They also told me it is a SiriusXm issue?? Unbelievable. I am on with them now. G-d knows how long this issue has been going on. For me since March 2019.

Just to clarify (because I'm not sure how to read your first sentence), my dealer did not tell me that this is also driven by XM. I read that in comments here. I cannot say for certain that Mazda's stated position is that XM updates are a contributing factor.

Did your dealer tell you they are?

Did that come before or after that June 3 email you posted?

So the update might be an XM push and not a Mazda update, huh?

I continue to wonder if other manufacturers are also having these compatibility issues. I don't hang around other forums, and a quick search only brings up generic XM issues.

I have had so many other cars with Sirius or SiriusXm, and never any issues like this. The issue is that Mazda and SiriusXm keep blaming each other and the Owners are suffering.

I have said ALL ALONG that the issue is with the SiriusXM receiver module.

Keep in mind, SiriusXM comes out with new receivers all the time. I'd be interested in knowing if the receiver in the 2019+ is a newer model that's causing issues.

I know when I had my old Mazda6 (2009), SIriusXM would push out updates quite frequently.. usually channel updates. When that happened, the radio would stop working during the update and return immediately. I wonder if its that process that's not working right.

Friend of mine has a 2019 Jeep something and his does the same thing all the time. I know its anecdotal, but his issues are very similar.
