Replacing Infotainment (Apple CarPlay)

So Mazda wants 459 installed for Apple CarPlay. In new Here and couldn’t find a thread. But has anyone replaced the system? And if you would switch it out, what would you get?

I think my local dealer is $299 to install. Alternatively diy kits are $150-$199 and step by step instructions can be found on YouTube.

How do I know if I have the most recent software. I read that if I don’t have it, it’ll mess it up.

The version number is in the system.
Go to settings, scroll all the way right to "system", then scroll down to "about".
The version will show up there.

Just FYI if you search on Craigslist, someone in OC area is doing $200 full installation.

I called them, then placed the order on their website. Be sure to ask for instruction when you place your order. Nice people. Ordered on last Friday, arrived Monday. New Hampshire to Arkansas.

The Mazda instructions neglect to tell you to plug in the cables to the control unit in the dash or where to plug them in. It is pretty obvious and they only plug in one way.

What year is your CX-9? The dealer should do the software update for free before the hardware install. I told mine there was an update to fix slow loading and they did it. There are ways to do it yourself.

I have a 16 that I just picked up last week. Should be updated right? I got it from the dealer.

Dealers don't have to do anything to a used car. The less they do the more they make. You can check the version in the car. Should be v70.00.21 or later.

I did. Bought this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) Then followed the instructions posted on this forum. Saved me $300 bucks doing it myself.

I just did it at the dealer - car was in there for a couple other things so I had them do it as well. It was 199 + 229 for the labor (cape cod). I probably could have done it myself I’m sure but splurged so it’s warrantied.
