The valve cover gasket is really simple to replace if you have to go that route.

I don't recall any broken/cracked valve covers, just the gasket and/or the grommets get old, crack and leak.

The gasket can be a PITA because you have to use silicone.
If you don't use any or enough, it will leak.
If you use too much, it can goop out on the inside then break off and sent a blood clot down the pipe.

You have to follow the tightening order or your gasket will go on off-kilter and not seal properly.

My parts car had two broken valve cover bolts and my DD had one broken bolt when I got them.

It's really easy to strip/snap those bolts.

The metal tubes, are part of the grommet, that's what you are tightening up to, not the gasket. That prevents you from squashing the gasket.





You're only snugging up to the metal sleeve.
