no, the original cracked windshield has not been replaced yet, on order..OEM. This crack is on driver's side edge. So strange, looks to be same location, opposite side.
First Pic is new crack, 2nd pic is crack that happened about 2 weeks ago. What are the odds of 2 rocks hitting the very edge of the windshield on both sides causing about 6" cracks?
OK, good for you then. Statistically your windshield is immune to the rock hit for the next 5 years maybe? ;)

So it's not a road she can avoid. Guys is there a plastic stick on material that can go on the windshield that prevents stone damage? I think she is going to get more stone hits on that highway, it must be a pretty bad highway.

I guess I'll add here my frustration with the windshield like many others. Four weeks after I bought the car a big crack developed on my windshield, 18" length or so. I ended up replacing it, what else. Then two months after I've replaced the original windshield with an OEM one, another stupid crack 6" or so appeared on the right side, mid windshield at the A pillar. Am I just unlucky with windshields or could it be more than that? I hate to spend another 1000$ or more to replace another one.

No, my deductible is less than that but I've already used the insurance to replace the original OEM windshield at the beginning of December, last year.

General info.

If you have glass coverage there is usually 0 deductible.
You are using your glass coverage (if you have it) not your comprehensive insurance
Per my State Farm agent glass coverage includes all glass including headlight lenses, sunroof - all glass.
Front cameras and safety features are so common now that Safelite should be able to handle a w/s replacement.
I would trust Safelite over the dealer as that is all they do all day long.

Please, this was general info, so yes I'm sure some of you have "well they once screwed up my window, blah, blah, blah" But a dealer has also screwed up replacing a pine cone air freshener once. I'd still trust my car to a glass only company whose tech does more windshields in a day than your dealer does in a week. YMMV

In general I do agree a Mazda dealer may not do a better job on windshield replacement itself than Safelite, but a Mazda dealer do have advantage of having factory computer and equipment to do proper calibration on these sensors. In addition, most dealers will outsource the windshield replacement to a windshield specialist, and do the sensor calibrations by themselves.

why do you think this? The crack is on passenger side, started near the edge
Two days ago on I95 I got hit with a small stone in the same area. Immediate 1” star cracked both directions to 4” in about 2 seconds. Crack has been slowly expanding and is now about 8”. Have an appt with Safe lite tomorrow to replace the windshield. Estimated 2-3 hours to replace the windshield and perform all the Mazda sensor adjustments needed.

Is the Safelite windshield just as thick as the oem? I've had a quote at one place and the guy mentioned they had Chinese replacements.

My 2019 Signature developed a crack last winter. Safelite's quote was much higher than a local shop, who was quietly recommended by a tech at my dealer (my dealer doesn't do glass or I would have gone there). Mine has the heads up display and a bunch of sensors that Satellite says need recalibration (for extra $$$$). I spoke at length with the local shop and they said it rarely needs recalibration if it is done properly. I went with them and have not found any problems. I have't driven long distances since then as it was the week the pandemic was declared and my area has been pretty locked down since. But I have seen all the normal displays/alerts and they seem fine.

yep, if the one who changes the glass and moves the sensors is not with 2 left hands and the glass is put and aligned properly it should be all good. That applies for the oem glass. Plus there is a procedure where the systems self align over time without the need for calibration equipment based on specific road conditions but they dont tell you that :) more profit $$
