LED license plate numbers

Hey everyone!
so I was watching mighty car mods and noticed this awesome mod but im not sure how to approach it. Of what I understand the numbers and writing on the license plate light up. Im guessing its LEDs but I want to do it and idk how or how legal this would be. can anyone help?

I don't think it would be LED's, but more likely luminescent paint.

I smell an "altering the license plate" ticket about to happen.........not worth the negative attention and possible harassment from cops or overzealous inspection people..............looks cool tho.

I was thinking the same thing! Too bad the "red" paint turns out orange....

unless you make it a completely different color like blue or green and take the one that in the day is transparent? and ya now that I think of it not the best way to keep away from the cops or at least to not catch their eye

In WA, completely illegal as are the blue lights in the headlight fixtures our any other blue light for that matter.

You arent even allowed to have glow in the dark paint?

Nope, you can not alter a plate. Technically you can not have a frame that covers any labels on the plate like the state label. If the plastic covers you see on them hinder their view (hazy, tinted) and bumper mounted trailer hitch balls thats probable cause for a stop. You may not get a ticket but you will be ran

Why would you want glow in the dark paint when you have to have a license plate light? I guess if you can't see it when the lights are on and on the street it would be ok because it wouldn't be noticeable.

Honestly i just thought it looked pretty sick and it was different from regular mods but i might just go evil m with fluorescent paint

I could see if you had a custom plate you might want to show it off with the fluorescent paint, but that would be the only reason I think.
