IPod Install Questions

I wanted to hook up my girlfriend's Ipod to her 2003 Mazda Protege and had a few questions (Sorry, I know this information has already been posted). I have done some searching and this is what I have found as possible options:

1) PIE Aux Input. Located at the following websites:
http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=1E0000-1112606399
(Cost $74.50)
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piemazpcalp.html
(Cost $89.50)
In addition to the PIE unit get a PIE mbus to a 3.5 stereo cable located at
http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=A60001-1115920829
Cost ($17.50)

2) Aux Mod located at
http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/
(Cost $60)
Also need a mbus to 3.5 stereo cable

3) Denison ICE link (Too expensive for my taste)

The following are my questions and searching info:

- The Aux Mod is on back order until late August.

- I have installed the PIE on my Mazda RX-8 and it was fairly straight forward and works great. How do you install the Aux Mod? Is there a DIY?
I have only located these threads, which one is the best method:

- Do I need to purchase a Din Tool?

- What are the advantages and disadvantages between the Aux Mod and PIE unit? I believe to switch between CD And IPod on the Aux Mod you either have to shut off the car or pop the CD in and out? Is this correct? Any other concerns to note?

- I am not going to purchase the ground loop isolator since I dont plan on runnning off a power source in the car.

- Need to insure that the firmware is version 9.55 or greater. How do you check the firmware version on a 2003 Mazda Protege?

I appreciate everyone's help.

Thanks
