Heres an artist listing you should start with:

Eric B and Rakim
Lost Boys
Kool G Rap

If you want to save yourself the trouble just go out and buy these cds:
Funkmaster Flex Mixtape Volume 2 & 3
The Source Presents hits from the Vault
Eric B and Rakim - Paid in Full
Old School Vs. New School
Full Clip: a Decade of Gang Starr

These won't have every artist featured, but all have a nice collection of hits from the early 90s. Flex's Volume 2 is still one of my favorite cds

L.O.T.U. (Lords of the Underground)
- "funky child"
- "chief rocka"

Souls of Mischeif
- "93 till infinity"

And just about any track by Pharcyde or A Tribe Called Quest.

I've got to second this one, especially if you can find the remix that has Too Short, Richie Rich and like 7 other artist on it that's a REALLY good hit.

I saw them in Concert while in college and they threw out blunts into the crowd. Damn cheap seats :(

thanks guys, there are a lot of those i use to listen to, but have just forgotten them over the years. like i said i havnt been into rap for about 4 or 5 years.

If you want to hear something current that is still good, pick up a mix tape put out by Rawkus Records. It's one of the few record lables that puts out quality, uncommercialized hip-hop.

Kurious
Scarface
Craig Mack
Easy E
LL Cool J
Warren G
Sir Mixalot
D12 (cause their new school but cool)
