Door edge protection guards

I just got a 2012 CX9 GT in the metro DC area. My car came with these black rubber door edge protection guards. I noticed in the pics section that some 2012's came without them. Was this a dealer installed item? It wasn't listed as an option.

These are the things that dealers charge you $100 for a cost of $10.
DIY if you like them. Get them from Autozone/Kragen autoparts stores.

Ok. Sound like a dealer installed option. Well, it's already on the car so...

My dealer puts the 3M clear strips on the door edge of all the cars they sell. Then they try to sell it as a door protection package for $99. I refused to pay and told them they can take it off if they wanted. They left it on. Go figure.

According to the guy who installed my clear 3M bra, these 3M strips are cheap, pennies on the dollar. Most dealers put it on because they park the cars so close together in the holding lot and it prevents door dings.

One note of caution regarding the edge guards is that I installed the black type found at auto parts stores (not the clear 3M film type) and they rubbed the paint off in a few spots in the jamb area.
