2017~2024 Dead batteries

I have a 2018 certified pre owned Mazda CX-5.
19,000 miles. Battery died , replaced it, died again.
Jump start, now back lift door not functioning

If you put in a new battery and it went dead again, you must have a parasitic draw.

See the prior discussion (which was for a brand new car):

And OP should not waste his time and money further, and take the 2018 CX-5 to the Mazds dealer for warranty service.

Not sure how did OP get the new battery, but the battery should be tested at first before the replacement. Can OP get OEM battery and money back?

Having mechanic check car for the parasitic draw right now! Thank you for your help. Also learning not to keep key fob anywhere near car as that draws as well overtime. These cars are too high tech for me...

Do you have a Mazda dealer checking out the problem?

High tech or not, you should never have to worry too much about key fob placement or your CX-5 do have problems!

And may be that’s why the previous owner dumped this 2018 CX-5 with only 19,000 miles so early ⋯

Check the history of warranty service at any Mazda dealers of your CX-5 if I were you.

Bought 2018 last year with 7,000 miles. Certified pre owned vehicle. Was used as a loaner. Just started having these issues.

For this kind of tedious problem, dealer is the best place to go. Besides, it’s free.

please let us know what they came up with.i changed 3 in 1.2years,the car drives very little and that kill batterys but still it wasn't nearly the case with my previous car that was a 09 cts and did exactly the same miles.somthing is fishy with mazda, the battery shop owner has a cx5 as well and told me the car needs to drive a lot in order to keep the battery alive.

I've been using a Black&Decker battery maintainer since I stay home so much. It keeps charging as needed.

One thing I notice about my cx5 is the running voltage reads about 13.8 while my other car a little over 14. I had a weak battery last summer but with the maintainer it's doing fine.

Good idea! I will get the battery maintainer. I don’t drive everyday either and that’s a problem. Thank you 😊

A battery maintainer is a great idea if your car is not driven regularly. Battery Tender is the established brand, so they price high... but they go on sale often. Smart chargers also have maintainence mode.

Modern cars have so many electronics, especially ones with lots of features, that if you do not go for a good drive every few days, the battery life can be shortened. A maintainer with very low voltage can help a lot. If you don't have access to an electrical outlet and park outdoors, there are solar powered maintainers as well.

Still there is no reason for a new battery to go dead so quickly. If the new battery wasn't defective, you have a parasitic draw that needs to be fixed.

Thank you for all the information. Dealership is working to find where the draw is coming from. Back lift door inoperable as well. They think this is the issue but continue to dig deeper.

bought the ctek msx700 charger that in last part of the charging procedure maintain the battery full.
ill charge every 3 months or so.

See my post about a “2020 CX 5 with mysterious power drain” It took me 3 weeks to get resolved (hopeful it is) but the dealer elevated my problem to a regional service specialist who advised them of a Mazda TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) saying the rear lift gate control module could draw excessive power and may require replacement. So my dealer did the replacement. The part was on back order and took a week + to come in. No problems since then though it’s only been 6 days. From your description it sounds like that might be your problem. Contact your dealer.

Hello Trygg
Yes it was the lift gate! Wasn’t catching properly which caused battery drain. Fixed latch, reset, and gave new battery just because...
I love the car especially when everything is functioning 😂🤗

I had a similar issue with the liftgate on my '18 CX-9. It would not open after I washed the car and the liftgate had frozen shut. I tried to open the liftgate anyway using the button, and blew the liftgate fuse, resulting in the car beeping at me whenever I tried pressing the button to open the liftgate. Check your fuses to make sure none of them are blown. If fuses are good, disconnect the battery and depress the brake pedal for 30 seconds to ensure the BCM is completely powered down, then reconnect battery and try again. If it still won't open, try unlocking all doors, then opening and closing the liftgate manually from the inside (instructions available in the online owner's manual). If that doesn't work, take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.

Or, as yrwei52 suggested, just take it straight to the dealer if you're still under warranty (and if the dealer is open/available).

u guys are talking about a lift gate that open up from the key fob or one that's just open manually?
mine opens up by hand phiscily not from the key fob.
tnx.
