And OP should not waste his time and money further, and take the 2018 CX-5 to the Mazds dealer for warranty service. If you put in a new battery and it went dead again, you must have a parasitic draw.
See the prior discussion (which was for a brand new car):
2020 CX-5 Mysterious battery draw
Hi, New member here looking for some insights into a mysterious electrical draw that’s causing my battery to go dead overnight on a new 2020 CX 5 Signature. It seems to happen when I pull the car into the garage at night. No lights or accessories are left on, nothing, such as charger, is plugged...www.mazdas247.com
Do you have a Mazda dealer checking out the problem?Having mechanic check car for the parasitic draw right now! Thank you for your help. Also learning not to keep key fob anywhere near car as that draws as well overtime. These cars are too high tech for me...
And may be that’s why the previous owner dumped this 2018 CX-5 with only 19,000 miles so early ⋯Do you have a Mazda dealer checking out the problem?
High tech or not, you should never have to worry too much about key fob placement or your CX-5 do have problems!
Bought 2018 last year with 7,000 miles. Certified pre owned vehicle. Was used as a loaner. Just started having these issues. And may be that’s why the previous owner dumped this 2018 CX-5 with only 19,000 miles so early ⋯
Check the history of warranty service at any Mazda dealers of your CX-5 if I were you.
For this kind of tedious problem, dealer is the best place to go. Besides, it’s free.Bought 2018 last year with 7,000 miles. Certified pre owned vehicle. Was used as a loaner. Just started having these issues.
Good idea! I will get the battery maintainer. I don’t drive everyday either and that’s a problem. Thank youI've been using a Black&Decker battery maintainer since I stay home so much. It keeps charging as needed.
One thing I notice about my cx5 is the running voltage reads about 13.8 while my other car a little over 14. I had a weak battery last summer but with the maintainer it's doing fine.
See my post about a “2020 CX 5 with mysterious power drain” It took me 3 weeks to get resolved (hopeful it is) but the dealer elevated my problem to a regional service specialist who advised them of a Mazda TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) saying the rear lift gate control module could draw excessive power and may require replacement. So my dealer did the replacement. The part was on back order and took a week + to come in. No problems since then though it’s only been 6 days. From your description it sounds like that might be your problem. Contact your dealer.Thank you for all the information. Dealership is working to find where the draw is coming from. Back lift door inoperable as well. They think this is the issue but continue to dig deeper.
