2018 CX-5 Roof Rail Rust

Hi All! First time poster here. Since we bought the vehicle new we've had rust showing on the rack anchor points. Took it to a dealer today, after some resistance they agreed to warranty them out for new ones. However, the advisor made it very clear that this will happen again. I've never seen this happen on any other CX-5. Anyone have this happen to them and did you do anything to prevent from occuring?

I might suggest products such as:

or Quick-Glo - Original, 8 oz - Chrome Cleaner & Rust Remover
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

or Blue Magic 400 7Oz Mtl Polish Cream
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

and personally I think this might be the best option - Magic Guard – Best Wheel Wax – Sealant & Protection for All Wheels
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Usually that kind of hardware is either stainless or coated better.

roof rail is an accessory, doubt there is any warranty coverage (plus its more than 1 year) for rust but it doesnt hurt to try.

Generally there is warranty coverage for any accessories included in the original new car purchase. Makes a dealer cost+ a little more bearable.

true. Thats why I put the 1 year remark. I would be surprised if its 3 yrs/36k.
Lets wait on the dealer response. Hopefully they would replace it because its annoying the least to see rust there.

Yeah, it says accessories installed by Mazda dealer prior to delivery fall under the replacement parts and accessory warranty of 12 months/12k miles. What if said accessories are installed before being delivered to the dealer, like at the port and are included on the original window sticker?

Previous vehicle purchases from other manufacturers included the accessories in the 3 yr/36k warranty if installed on the vehicle at time of purchase.

Yes, these port-installed genuine accessories which are listed on the factory window sticker are indeed covered under 36,000-mile / 36-month new car warranty.
