2015 Mazda2 Sedan fuel type question

2015 Mazda 2 Sedan
Hi All,

Last week I brought a used 2015 Mazda 2. By looking at the user manual, it suggests I can use 92 octane petrol to fuel the car. But since this has a SkyActiv engine, don't I have to use premium fuel (95 octane or above) because skyactiv has a higher compression?

Is there anyway I can find if my SkyActiv engine has this high compression mazda claims or is there a version of the skyactiv engine that has normal compression like in old mazdas?

It is a 1500cc engine.

Go with the manufacturer recommendations, they know what they're talking about.

More specifically, because the Skyactiv Engine platform uses direct injection it can run a higher compression without detonation due to the charge cooling effect of fuel atomizing within the combustion chamber. The gasoline changes from a liquid to a vapor and the resultant phase change sucks a bunch of energy out of the cylinder, dropping the temperature substantially. This combats pre-detonation very effectively.
