2013 Mazda CX-5 GX AWD
Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone could tell me if I actually have an issue with the stock sound system currently in my brand new GX. I have my ipod hooked up to the USB, and the files are very high quality, sound great in my other car but on the GX as soon as I raise the volume to about 30 (not very loud at all), the sound is very grainey. It's so bad that I have to keep it below about 26 for it to sound clear. Is the stock sound system in the GX just very bad, or is there an issue with my system? At what point do you guys start to hear a lot of crackling?

Thanks!

Stock sound sucked. Thats why i replaced mine. Less than $150 for all speakers and worlds better sound.

Try turning the iPod volume itself down a little. I've had problems in other cars when the player is turned up too high like above 80%.

Do you have the same problem with the radio? I suppose that's the only way to understand wether the problem is on Bose or on your iPod.

Hm this has helped a bit, but I still find there's quite a bit of grainyness. I don't know, maybe the quality of the stock basic speakers are just very poor compared to what I've been used to in my previous cars.
I guess my next question would be, is it at all possible to upgrade the speakers while keeping the stock head unit (and not modifying the door panels/interio of the car at all)?

Yes. Go the crutchfield.com and put in your y/m/m and they will tell you what fits and what will be needed to make it fit, if anything.

Like I said last week, I replaced my speakers. The models are in my signature. No need to modify anything else (ie no amp no different head unit), just swap of the speakers.

Put these in the front and rear doors (buy 2 pairs): https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Put these in the dash: https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Hey nizzy,

I was looking at TreyP's suggestion of www.crutchfield.ca (I'm in Canada and Amazon.com won't ship these over here) to try to find the similar set, and they note that you need to re-drill the mounting screw holes? You were able to just splice the factory wiring, attach it to the Polk Audio speakers and just remount it in place? It also says I need a speaker adapter bracket that's included in the cost of the speakers, did you use one of these as well ( http://www.crutchfield.ca/ProductDetails_Popup.asp?ProductCode=120828145 )?

They also state that 3.5" speakers won't fit in the dash, so I'm not sure how accurate their info actually is.

Thanks!

The stock speakers are glued into the plastic door housing. You can easily cut them out to reuse the stock housing. Then you will attach the new speakers with screws into the stock housing. I did this for the fronts. For the rears I did not use the stock housing but instead used the included standard mounting bracket that came with the speakers to attach them to the door.

As for the 3.5" speakers they absolutely fit. Well at least the Polks I mentioned I can guarantee do. I did not use the stock bracket for those as it is meant for 1" speakers but the 3.5" drop in.
