Can someone please confirm for certain that the water pump is an external design, unlike the gen 1 internal design? Dont want to play another game of water pump Russian Roulette. Thanks!

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Here is an article I read - * The coolant can become more acidic over time and lose its rust-inhibiting properties, causing corrosion. Corrosion can damage the radiator, water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, hoses and other parts of the cooling system, as well as to the vehicle heater system...

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Yup, I did exactly the same! I typically do all maintenance myself, but paying a few extra dollars for a real flush on a machine, and using genuine FL22 is much cheaper than having a water pump go out.

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Yeah, I*ll do that next time. Thanks. Just brought it to my local trusted mechanic and he did the flush (I brought him 3 gallons of FL22). All is well for now! Best medicine for preemptively keeping the dreaded water pump happy

Who has got the highest mileage CX-9 out there?

Great thread! Wife*s 2012 CX9 has 78k mi and I was thinking about getting rid of this due to the impending water pump and PTU issues, but after seeing this I may hang on for another couple of years

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Uh oh, just thought of something. I used Prestone chemical flush with the old coolant, then drained and filled twice with distilled water, then added FL22. Now I*m paranoid that some of the chemical flush is still lurking in the system and will damage the already vulnerable water pump! Should...

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Hmmm.. Please let me know! I just flushed mine out today and refilled. According to the manual, the 2012 CX 9 takes about 3.0 gallons of FL22, which I purchased. I flushed 3 times, and only about half (1.5 gallons) came out the entire time. Does this mean that 1.5 g of water I used to flush...

2007~2015 First Gen - Coolant quantity for drain and fill question

Just purchased 3 gallons of FL22 at the Mazda dealer for a whopping $25 each! Should be enough. Maybe I*ll take a crack at the flush this weekend...

I hear you. And isn*t this why we do things ourselves in the first place - dealers can make catastrophic mistakes! Good luck.

2012 CX9 with 75k Miles - Too Late to Switch to Synthetic Oil?

Hello, All. Has my CX9 since brand new in 2012 and always used conventional 5W-20. Picked up some oil at Wal Mart the other day and noticed the synthetics are almost the same price as conventional these days. Id like to switch, but Ive read some older cars that have always used conventional...

    Transmission fluid

Stop right there - that is the wrong fluid and you can damage your transmission! Definitely wait and go back to the dealer for JWS3309. It should read this on the bottle.
