I just spoke to my dealer. I'm in Canda so it may make some difference. Dealer is not trying to make serious bucks on trade in in this case (as usual), but just trying to facilitate sale, as he's getting full margin on Mazdaspeed anyway. I am asking 10K CAN for '99 Corolla VE, 88Kkm with air, security and 6year 200K extended warranty. Dealer's reply was that on first check this model usually goes for around 9K on auctions, but he is fairly confident he can work it out.
Again, this is story of my dealer only, but it's my impression he's not trying real hard to screw me over.
Keep in mind that Mazdaspeed is not quite that affordable in Canada as it appears to be in US. For this much money, you can get here RSX(with Leaterger, ABS and sunroof) or Altima V6 with manual, or new Mazda 6 V6 with manual, when it comes in January.
