It's a malfunction on jhoak123's car. In overseas markets, the Mazda3 can be had with automatic climate control, so that display is used to either show the desired temp setting or the outside ambient temperature.
N. American-spec Mazda3 does not have automatic climate control so the entire right-side of the display should be blank. However, there have been reports of AMB --- showing up - just like jhoak123's car. Actually, there's been so many reports that Mazda has issued a TSB on it (basically to reset the audio system to clear it):

Some vehicles may show bars on the right side of the audio display. This area should be blank with no bars displayed.
Disconnect the 15A room fuse in the under hood fuse box in slot F31 Wait 2 minutes and reconnect. This resets the audio unit.
