Remember that short rams have been proven to DECREASE performance over stock, depending on ambient heat soak.
There are actually dealer TSB's for some GM cars which tell the dealers to look for shortrams and remove them...if the customer complains of the following..
1) Sluggish accleration.
2) Boggyness.
3) Poor throttle response.
4) erradict shifting behavior.
The only time a short ram shows a gain, is during the first dyno run. After that, the gains diminish rapidly, followed by a possible LOSS of power vs stock.
The 3's intake system is not only insulated in plastic, but it draws air from the wheel well. Going to a metal short ram not only makes the intake pipe absorb all the engine bay heat, but also pulls said intake air from the engine bay itself...which results in a nice power loss.
