Maybe this question has been asked a million times before.
But I just want to hear you guys' opinion.

Is it ture that rotary engine doesn't last long and reliable?
What kind of maintance effort one has to put to in keep the engine in good shape so it would last just as long as typical piston engine?

In theory a rotary should out last a piston engine because it has fewer moving parts. But, the story I got when I was looking at RX-7s is that it all depends how the engine was treated through out its life. The break in period is very important to the engine and if it has ever been over-heated the life span can be drastically reduced.

we have some guys with 250, 000 miles on a stock 13b, the life of the motor depends on how it was treated, The turbo motor don't usally last as long as the n/a though

i have 277,000 on my 88 rx7. it now needs the seals replaced, i got the car with 30,000 miles on it about 10 years ago. this is the first major problem i have ever had with it. The only complaint is that parts cost more $$ than your average car. but than again, its the only car with a rotary in the USA.
