Mazda6 or Mustang Mach1

I am debating whether to get a Mazda6 or Mach1. Everything is in the 6's favor except the power and the customizability of the Mach1 (actual word, I dunno). Does anybody have advice and/or places to find Mazda6 aftermarket products?

uhh, the 6 is new, but it has many aftermarket parts in the works...give it time. get the 6, because everyone knows teenage girls drive mustangs :D

the 6 has killer looks and you wont see 20 of them on your way to work

The two cars are just too different to compare. The 6 is FWD, V6 or four cylinder, 4 door, full size trunk sedan with reasonable fuel effeciency. The Mach is a RWD, V8, 2 door sports car tuned up for over 300hp.

What do you need from your new car?

Greddy is working on a turbo kit for the 6....that should substatiate your power needs unless you require more than 300.
Cheers,
Moose

I hate to say it, but if you have the money get the Mach 1. That thing just has a sound that will make you want to get into some major civil disobedience. Not only that, but if you keep it in great shape it will have good value retention.

Can't relly compare the 2. Since the Mazda6 is a midsize sedan and the Mach1 is a Muscle sports Car. I'd say if you're looking for power you can get the 2002 WRX for the same price of the Mach1 or cheaper. Now if you don't care what brand of a car the name is and what kind of reliability the car has been delt with in past history, then you can get a Dodge Neon SRT-4 which is 5-6 thousand cheaper than an Mach1 and perform's or even outperform's the Mach1.;)

If you are looking to mod the car skip the Mach1, buy a GT and go to town. I'm personally not partial to any Mustang built after '69 so I would say go with the 6.

Uhhh, No. This is incorrect.

Well, you are essentially correct on the performance aspect considering the numbers are very, very comprable. However the interiors, the general quality, and features of the two cars really don't compare. That's all I meant. Plus one is an econobox on some serious roids while the other is a sportscar.

My bad...my previous post came off harsh when that was not my intent.

No problem, but JimmyZ posted a Mazda6 or a Mach1 thread, Can't compare the 2 either "so i threw in some other choices for him since he was looking for performance aftermarket parts, figured he might be interested in the performance category.

hehe. Very good point. I just want to know why these two cars? They have so little in common (6 and Mach1).

The Mustang is not now nor has it ever been a true sports car. It has always had its roots in one of Fords econo cars. In the 60's it was the Falcon, in the 70's it shared platform with the Pinto, The current platform (Fox) that it has been on since '79 is shared with the Escort/Contour. Thus making it an econobox with some serious roids. If it were a sports car it would be on par with the 'vette, 996, Viper(gag), etc...

Not even going to touch this loaded post.

I am in the market for a new car. I am one of very few people that has no real bias against any carmaker. I want something that performs well, and that I can mod in my off time. Obviously there is a great many parts for Mustangs, but I am figuring there will be plenty o'parts coming for the 6. I have two kids, or I would get the Mach1 without a 2nd thought. But it has like absolutely no room in the back for my kids' legs. I was out test driving a bunch of cars yesterday (Celica, Matrix, P5, Mustang, 6) tried to do the Evo, but they would not let me. I loved the Celica, 6, and the Stang. I narrowed it down to the Stang or 6 and I was just lookin for advice or points of view on the decision.

Sorry, I should have included that my first car was a '66 GT and I actually do like Mustangs, except the current version, but that's only because I'm too tall to drive one. It has just always bugged me that Ford has never thought enough of the line to develope it on its own platform to make it more of a sporting car rather than tweaking the heck out of an economy platform.

well I haven't seen it in person yet, but I'm pretty certain when I do see it in flesh I'll love the way it looks

sort of how the Mazda6 looks much better in person than in pictures, just several degrees of magnitude better :D

Forget the Mach1, wait until 2005 and get the redesigned 'Stang... [commence drooling]

dr_"seriously love the looks of that car"_sarcasm.

P.S. As others have noted, the two cars serve different purposes - decide which ones serves your longterm needs better and go from there. Good luck.
