BOSAL HEADER

It came in today. Bosal header for the 626 and MX-6 2.0. Got it from Mazdamotorsports for $282 total, including S&H. It is big hehe. The actual header goes all the way down and under the engine, then it has another piece with it that goes back to the back about another foot. It is grey and the welds are very noticeable and kinda ugly. I will take pics of it tomorrow. I might try and test fit it Sat or Sun, or I might just wait until I get it installed. Will let you guys know what all has to be modified for it to fit.

Most headers I've seen extend under the engine :D hehe. So from what it sounds like, the header is Ceramic Coated? Anyhow, hope you get the pics up soon

Well yeah, most do go under the engine, but some are 2 piece. This header is one piece is what I meant by the comment :)

Looks good...Hope it fits :) Looks about the same from what I can tell by just looking at the header in my car.

Any news? Have you tried to test fit it or put it in? This would be cool if it works. Keep us posted :)

I haven't done jack hehe. I am gonna test fit it tomorrow. I might look into getting the Bosal Federal exhaust, so I wanna see exactly where the header ends up in relation to the stock exhaust.

Well, started the test fit today. I was one bolt away from getting the stock header off. One damn friggin bolt! There is a bracket that bolts to the cat and the transmission. I got the bolt off the cat, but there is a stud that goes through the bracket and the header would not come off. I tried unbolting the bracket from the transmission but it wouldn't budge.

So it was getting dark and I gave up. It DOES look like the header will bolt up and clear no problem. The only thing that should have to be modified is the EGR valve. The one on the MP3 is straight, the one on the Bosal is angled down, but this should be an easy mod, they are in the same general area. Other than that any muffler shop should be able to make it work with the stock exhaust. Simply a matter of cutting the stock exhaust and either making it longer to fit, or shorter. Then there is the O2 sensors. The Bosal has one, our stock has 2. You would either need to extend the 2 back to the 2nd cat and have them put in there, one before and one after, or try that wiring thing that someone posted on here, trick the ECU into thinking there is a cat.

I am still going to try and get the stock one off, will keep you all updated.

NC_MP3 sorry about the welds will try working on that, but please keep up the good work of "making it fit" Try to take some pictures of the modifications if any & if there is anything we can change or add O2 fitting ect.
One more thing what year is your car?

Well, I dropped the car off today to get everything put on, so I will have pics and let you all know what has to be done when I get it back Fri night or Sat morning.

Bosalmike: From looking at it the only major thing is the egr valve. The stock MP3 one is straight, the bosal is angled down. It is a simple fix though, just cut the egr pipe and put a rubber hose on it so you can bend it down, then put the end you cut off on and reconnect it. That's how I would do it, but I will let you all know how the shop does it. They are also drilling another hole and adding the bolt for the 2nd O2 sensor. I expect my check engine light to come on cause both O2 sensors will be reading the same since there is no cat between them. My car is a 2001 MP3.

Apexi: I have my club's website up. I will upload the pics to it and link to them. You prolly can't see em cause I have them on my ftp server. Linking through ftp sometimes doesn't work. I will get them up asap.

Alright, I'm new to this group. I just found out about it from a smaller yahoo MP3 group. This is also my first import (that I plan on modifying, anyway) so I'm still learning a lot. Where did you guys find all these mods? All I've added so far is the AEM RAM intake. Do you know where I can get the Bosal Federal exhaust? Sorry for all the questions, I gotta add something new. After driving the first time with the new air intake, I was amazed at the small differences I heard and felt. Anyway, if someone could give me a web site to check out or some other useful info, I'd appreciate it!
