Now that the CX-5 is available with a turbo, thought it would be helpful to share a video showing real world acceleration from a 2017 CX-5 GT AWD with the naturally aspirated 2.5, for shoppers trying to figure out the best engine for their needs.

Bought this CX-5 about a year ago and Ive been totally satisfied with the performance. For a NA four cylinder, it has plenty of pickup. I find it quick off the line - it really moves out in suburban driving. Also has a decent sounding engine note.

Ive measured 0-60 a few times, and its anywhere from 7.8 - 8.2. I found this car to really open up after proper break-in and the first oil change. Also, of all the vehicles Ive owned, the CX-5 has the best automatic transmission by far - smooth and extremely responsive.

I plan to keep my CX-5 for about 5 more years before trading it in for another. At that point Ill consider the turbo, which looks like a great motor. But for now, compared to other NA four cylinder SUVs, the CX-5 definitely holds its own, as youll see in this recent Motor Trend article comparing CUVs: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mo...an-rogue-subaru-forester-and-toyota-rav4/amp/

The pre-17's were much faster feeling, but overall I agree 100%. Especially about the transmission. Most well sorted out slushbox I've ever driven, including the much praised 7A in the 370z.

Thanks for the video! I'm sure this will help potential buyers considering all MYs of the CX-5.

Yeah, I have never understood those people who say the CX-5 with the 2.5 NA is slow. It is very competitive and more than adequate for real every day driving.

It is as you say. I'll bet most of the people who say it have owned faster cars. That's my perspective. I call it slow, but I'm not unhappy with it. Slow is a relative term, not absolute. :)

I feel like the speed is not commensurate with the luxury. Having been in a 2018 loaner for some time now (few days), I feel like speed is literally the only thing "missing". I truly am astounded at how "nice" the CX5 upper trim levels are in the Gen 2's.

Agree. I never understood it either.
